@Nozinan My apologies for not mentioning it sooner but I think the "deal" was over on Feb 7th. I usually check their flyer every Wednesday just to irritate myself in the event a scotch shows its' face. However I must say their normal QC price is better than anywhere else I can find it.

@Jonesz inspired by your bargain purchase or Laphroaig QC I looked about online and managed to find some for £25 GBP. Not as good as yours at 35 CAD but still the best price I have seen it for in the UK. I multiple ordered as well , 3 in my case.

Ever since @maltactivist provided his review of Benromach 10 YO 100 proof (see below) I have been craving an opportunity to try this whisky.

connosr.com/reviews/benromach/…

I tried the 10 YO a few years back before rebranding and it was good. But his review and some others I've since seen made me quite regretful I couldn't get it here. I also no longer have access to a US address to ship to and the cost has really become prohibitive.

So this weekend my brother tells me he is going overseas and his last stop on the way back is London, and would I like for him to bring anything back? I can have it sent to his friend... Well...

Master of Malt has this for sale for only $58.10 US (sadly because of UK delivery VAT makes it $69.72. Still unavailable here in Canada at any price! I added on 2 x 200 cc bottles of Big Peat and a few of some must have 30 cc samples (stuff I will otherwise never taste and really want to) and a sample of Danish aquavit for someone I work with.

Now...any volunteers to help me try it all?

@maltmate302 I was in Scotland three years ago and recall HP 12 was in the Tesco stores for exactly that same 25 pound figure. Became the daily day ender for our crew and we went through 3 botles. Would gladly pay 25 pounds for Laph QC for a daily tipple. You did well.

Picked up the Arran 12 yo CS, batch 5 earlier this week. Likely will crack it open in the summertime. Decided to go with that over the Tamdhu 10 when I read multiple reviews that mention a heavy sulphur note in the Tamdhu. I'm not sulphur adverse, but I don't want it in heavy doses.

@Nozinan - the same review put the Benromach 100 proof 10 yo on my wish list as well. Congrats on the acquisition!!

@Pudge72 I've been eying the Arran 12 CS. I'll try the sample from MoM first and if I like it, with luck there will be a bottle or two left in Ontario.

Re: the Benromach 100/10, maybe that's one to save for the Ontario summit that may precede the "Whisky Summit" - you in?

Ballantine's 17 for this week's whisky club, we are doing all blends this month. I quite enjoyed it when I got to sample the 43% version, it was well integrated and a bit old school (I think the Jim Murray hype caused too much backlash). Also Cutty Sark Prohibition is back in stock locally so picked up a bottle for the home bar.

@Nozinan nice haul from Master of Malt...thanks for pointing out that LCBO has Arran 12 cask strength in stock, I'm a big fan of this distillery, now I've got whisky fever again!

I've just ordered 2 bottles of Springbank 12YO batch 12 at 54.1%abv. I've also bought a Ledaig from the Signatory Cask Strength Collection. It's 3 months short of 10YO and I've been after one of these for quite a while. They seem to be very well regarded by the Whiskybase community , hence the relatively high price of £67 for a 9YO whisky.I think I'll be opening this one sooner rather than later!

Congratulations on your Springbanks...the 12YO CS is harder to find in Canada now and about 20% more expensive than it used to be.

And congratulations on post #1000 !

@Nozinan I'm more excited about the Ledaig , there are many favourable reviews and scores. The Springbank is the new batch 12 which has just been released. I have 3 other bottles of it from different batches but I don't mind having an excess of Springbank 12 CS because it's wonderful stuff.

As for the post I had absolutely no idea that I have posted 1000 times ,I would have guessed that I have put about 300 out. Thanks for the congrats!

I started off the New Year determined to cut down on my whisky purchase's but I'm finding it virtually impossible, there's so much which catches my eye. After my Springbank and Ledaig buy's yesterday I have now bought my first ever Armagnac, a 1966 Sigognac for £64 , it seems to be £160 everywhere else. It's a very good friends 50th birthday next month so I'll open it then.I've already given him an Aberlour Abunadh batch 50 for the occasion and he was overwhelmed by my 'thoughtfulness'. Truth being told I unloaded it on him because its not a great batch and I'm happier with my batch 53! I also got a Rittenhouse Rye 100 proof because my other bottles nearly empty.

@maltmate302 I hope your friend isn't reading this thread....

I acknowledge the batch 50 is not as popular as other batches but I would still like to celebrate 50 years on this earth with a batch 50. I don't think I'll be able to afford either a vintage with my birth year or a 50 YO anything. Thanks to @Robert99 for sourcing one for me...

I started the year with a primary and secondary goal. The primary goal was that the number of unopened bottles in my collection should be the same next year as it is this year. I have a lot open now, but there are still a few I expect to crack this year, and I did return three to the LCBO, so I figured I could probably get a few. But then Tempest V came along, the inexpensive and good batch of oogy in Calgary, the Booker's 2015-04 in Calgary, Devils's Cask, Blanton's Gold, Benromach 100/10 and I'm now 4 over, if you don't count 200 cc bottles of Big Peat. I only have 2 scheduled for opening this year...

If I could return my Aberlour 10, 12, 16, 18 set without buying anything it might help, but I can't (the ABVs have changed).

SO my secondary goal is to end the year with no more than 4 extra bottles. This would be like a government slowly lowering its deficit but increasing its debt. I'm lowering the amount of space I take up in the basement every year but it's still accumulating.

oops. the secondary goal is 10 extra bottles, not 4... next year's secondary goal will be closer to 4. Let's see who reaches balance first, me or the Canadian government...

@Nozinan the official Kilkerran 12 will be out later this year, that's obviously got to be one of the most important releases of the summer, don't forget to leave room in your 10 for that one. Actually I didn't put my bottles of Amrut bourbon cask #3436 into my above post. I forgot about ordering 2 of them last night. it's regarded as one of the best they've released in Europe. I'm amazed that they were still available 18 or so months on from an original release of 179 bottles. Had them on sale too at £49.

The Amrut single casks (bourbon) hare excellent. I expect the variation between casks is not too great. I've never tasted a non-exceptional Amrut

@Nozinan , if you did a non-exceptional one, it would be exceptional? :)

I chose my words incorrectly. I used common usage instead of proper definition. English isn't my first language.

So: I have never had a non-delicious Amrut.

But given that Amrut's expressions are better than the averagesingle malt, perhaps it is appropriate to call them exceptional. In which case, a non-exceptional one would indeed be exceptional...

The reviews are wonderfull and the flavours are what I'm looking for in a whisky. Peat, smoke & sweet, fruity. Ardbeg Uigeadail, Lagavulin Distillers Edition are two of my favourite expressions. Today I ordered two bottles of Laphroaig Brodir batch 002, one to drink and one to store. This was on my radar for a while, but I was hold back by the price tag. Well that seems te be solved now it's in offer for € 80,- a bottle!!! I can't resist........ klik, klik, klik and waiting for mr. postman :)

@cricklewood You have peaked my interest.

Contemplating buying Ballantine's 17 it is about $85 Cdn where I am . Knowing that whisky prices are currently going crazy and we just had another price increase pretty much across the board at BC liquor stores(possibly in part because of the weak Cdn dollar, but it is gaining a bit). Looking at what other people pay for it seems like a decent price.

Enjoy the Compass Box Spice tree so in a bit of a dilemma buy another bottle of that or....

@MrFathom Thanks for the shout out.

Yeah prices increased out of the blue In Quebec 2 weeks ago, small amounts, barely perceptible but depressing nonetheless.

This is only my opinion and I like drinking blends so take it with a grain o' salt. Ballantine's 17, I find it a bit of a dark horse, it's very velvety, drinks superbly but not like a lot of blends where it's all smooth, vanilla caramel, it's got a certain astringency (think strong brewed tea) and a bit of polish/wax but not off putting. It's got fruity notes and a superbly integrated yet very light smoky element.

Again I think the top whisky bible B.S. caused too much expectation, it's a quietly grows on you, it doesn't hit you in the face, nor does it use heavy oak manipulation.

That said it is sadly thin bodied at now 40% (even 43%), the finish also has a hard time sustaining this really interesting vibe and so let's you down a bit. If this was offered at 46 or50% with less filtration I think it could kick-ass. 85$ isn't cheap and as I said don't expect fireworks, if you can split with some friends to taste it would be ideal but I was pleasantly surprised.
