@cricklewood Duly noted.

The opinion of one person ( whisky bible) no mattered how esteemed is in the end only one person. Though the process in which whisky critics such as Ralfy, Serge and quite a few others voice and write there view points is interesting to say the very least.

This is why I enjoy the analysis of people who drink, "The good, bad and the ugly" and comment here on there whisky adventures. Many on this site seem to have a decent enough funds coming in and it is hard not to get caught up in the surge to buy. It seems the current theme of no age statements and low abv are right along my thought process that they should be few and far between.

The idea of splitting bottles among friends or a group of people is good. One which has been discussed with friends and associates and will happen. Now how much is Black Bull 40 again? Anyway I digress.....

It seems Ballantine's 17 will have to be procured and my simple judgement made.

Jack Daniels SB Barrel Proof 66.10% (already have the 65.30% BP and really enjoyed it so wanted to try another JD Barrel Proof), Old Weller Antique 107 (because I haven't seen it in awhile and like it), Old Taylor 6 yr Straight Bourbon (never tried), J.T.S Brown Straight Bourbon (aged 36 months/375 ml), Angels Envy (100 ml), Maker's 46 (375 ml). Why I bought them? Because I love bourbon and even though I've tried many bourbons I had yet to try Old Taylor, J.T.S Brown, Angels Envy and Maker's 46.

@Nozinan Ah the nuances and my slim grasp of the proper way of phrasing things.

Maybe one day I will have a secretary that will post my findings on sites like these. On a side note there is a site that a clever watch snob writes about issues regarding horological issues. Very entertaining especially if you like watches.

Good catch. The "Peaked" was regarding Ballantine's 17. My interest in whisky will not diminish anytime soon. Now where did I put that glass of Macallan 12. Wish it was Mac 18, but that's another story.

On the trail for Macallan 18 but $250 usd is a bit tough for common man like me, but will attain sometime soon. Attention to detail is important on most fronts so no problem with the criticism.

@thecyclingyogi A clever view.

It seems you probably are a man that has traveled quite a bit. The extent of your whisky tasting and views show you have had quite an extended journey in that category anyway. Interesting how the cabinet shows a current void though.

Well I just brought a load of american bourbonsryes for a good old USA of tasting session, as per the below. I'm kinda excited because most peoples experience is just with Jack Daniels.

2 bottles of Willet single cask rye (cask1408) 8 year old. 5 bottles of Blantons Gold. 5 bottles of Blantons cask strength. 5 bottles of Mitcher's cask strength Rye. 5 Rowans Creek. And a Rock Hills Farm.

Anybody else want to come along for wee taste....

Two more bottles of Flaming Heart (latest edition) and a bottle of Port Charlotte PC12. Should be enough for a while...

As fate would have it, managed to find some of the Parker's Heritage Collection 8th Edition, that is to say: reasonably priced without the secondary market markups.

Also a bottle of Tomatin 15 Year Old that is on clearance - apparently the packaging is being updated.

I have been eyeing this for a while and was a little surprised to come across it thinking that it has all been sold out in retail.

Just been on holiday to Dom. Rep wife bought me Kilchoman Coull Point at airport because distillery I had not tried and travel retail only. £50

While in resort picked up a Ron Barcelo Imperial and a Brugal Leyenda, the Imperial as I had heard good things on reviews and the Leyenda as new expression, both bought at the Defensa store in Bayahibe no haggling just pay the price $21 and $23 dollars respectively.

I had wanted to get one high end rum but there was none in local shop and the hotel and airport mark up are prohibitive. The hotel shop had Brugal siglo de oro at $200, and the night they put stalls on site saw the Leyenda asked price and was told $175 but make an offer, told the guy I had already bought it at 23 and he did not bat an eyelid as I walked away.

sengjc: if you enjoy the Tomatin 15yo, you may want to return to the retailer who has it on clearance. My understanding was that more than just the packaging is being updated; the 15yo has been discontinued and replaced with a 14yo port finished product. Tomatin was one of the first two entry-level single malts during the start of my "journey". Lately, it has had a resurgent among my friends. Enjoy !

Jura Brooklin because I never had a Jura and because of it triple cask ( Bourbon, Amoroso and Pinot Noir) and then I grabbed a Springbank 12 yo CS because I need to give another chance at Springbank ( I have troubles with the funky herbs ) so why not going for a CS doing so,

@Nozinan I was shocked recently when I find out that SAQ has more whiskies than LCBO. Unfortunately, the prices are still... Well, you know.

@Robert99 I don't know about volume or variety, but I know the selection is sometimes different. And some of the prices are relatively reasonable. Even without the 10% volume discount sale, the price for the 12 YO CS is comparable to Calgary!

@Robert99 , I don't know what your Springbank prices are like there, but in most markets it seems like the 12 CS the best value pick of the standard lineup. Nice buy.

Nice haul, it seems we are on a similar vibe of late. I got to sample the Jura Brooklyn (working on a review) and it’s quite nice, I didn’t know that if was a mix of casks but it makes sense when you taste it, most Jura is kind of hit or miss. I had Sprinkbank 12 CS on my hit list; I haven’t tried any Campbeltown yet. You must have got the last bottle in MTL , only some left in Quebec city now. I tried to get a Bowmore Devil’s cask 3 yesterday that shit sold out in 3 hours. I don’t even think it hit the shelves.

Elijah Craig Small Batch 12 YO bourbon 47%. Why? Because I thought it wasn't bad when I tried a part of a sample (thanks @paddockjudge), it will be nice to compare with the ECBP I have, and the word is they are replacing it with NAS, so it will be nice to open with friends in the years to come when it is no longer common (like most of my bottles will be by the time i get around to opening them...

I have too many peated whisky opened, but I don't no if I will be able to wait to finish a few before opening this one. As many, my desires are often stronger than my will.

@Criklewood I never saw the Devill's cask on the site. How did you come aware that SAQ had some? I check from time to time the new arrivals but never saw it. My technic to buy in the Signature section of SAQ is to look at the inventory and buy the one that I like that are going faster. That way, I may be able to catch another that I want that is not as popular when my cash flow allows it.
