@Nozinan I've never had the Devil's Cask. Is it anything like any of the Tempest batches?

Had the GD CS 3 at a tasting session last year. Lovely stuff that I would rate as a 90 pointer.

@BlueNote Devil's cask releases were sherry cask peated expressions. I think Tempest was exclusively bourbon cask but i could be wrong. Very different animals.

Laphroaig 10yr CS 007

I bought it due to the great price and the superlatives thrown around about it. I went through a bottle of it about 4 years ago and recall enjoying it but not being blown away by it. So when I got home I poured myself half a dram and already regret buying this. I guess I am not as big into huge peat bombs these days but this is just too much. It's like picking up a clump of earth straight out of a peat bog and stuffing it in your mouth. It's very one dimensional also within the category of "slightly offensive." lol Hopefully a friend of mine will trade something for it.

@MadSingleMalt

@KRB80 , ouch. I can see how that wouldn't work for you if you're not into huge peat bombs these days. The bombs don't really get much bigger than that!

If you can't trade it, you might be able to get some value out of it as a "spiker" into any too-tame whiskies you have lying around. It's got so much peaty power, a dash should be plenty to liven up any boring old blend you might have collecting dust. You might find that 90% cheap blend + 10% Laphroaig CS = your peat sweet spot.

@Nozinan Agreed. I really wish they’d make that Laphroaig Peated chewing-gum

@OdysseusUnbound You've had good success with Glengfarclas... why not try writing Laphroaig? About the gum. I already know their answer about the whisky...

@MadSingleMalt Yeah, I have thought about that and that's what I'd do, along with the random "fuck it" dram, but I should probably be able to grab a trade.

It is also coming across as very bitter which I don't care for. I'm gonna have to pull out the Oogie from my cabinet just to make myself feel like less of a pussy.

@KRB80 , now there's a purpose of high-proof Islay whisky that I hadn't appreciated before!

Got a bottle of Redbreast 12. I’ve been deficient in my Irish whiskies and this one was 30% off. Local LCBO manager clearance.

@boatracer It is outstanding in my humble opinion.

@dcbill @boatracer The Redbreast 12 is delightful, the Cask Strength 12 is magical. It’s more than I normally like to pay for whisky, but after the first sip, I completely forgot about the price. I regret nothing.

I wonder, is the Redbreast 12 to the 12 CS the same way that the Ben 10 is to the Ben10/100? If so they are both great and maybe it's worth pickling up a standard 12...

@OdysseusUnbound I shall tomorrow.. set out on a journey in southern MD to find a bottle of RB12 CS... indeed... I have heard too many wonderful things.

Traded the Laphroaig 10 CS for a Elijah Craig Barrel Proof.

I keep almost biting on the Rebreast 12 CS but have yet to cave.

@KRB80 That's a tough trade.... In Canada both are non-existent to buy. I have 1 and a bit of the Laphroaig and 2 of the ECBP. It would be hard to trade one for the other. I rank them both very closely.

I applaud your decision-making capacity.

@boatracer Thanks, all gone. Still have an unopened one but would have been a nice excuse to open it had I snagged another. I am in Hamilton on the Mountain so if I see anything on clearance I can message you if you like.

@Astroke the inventory still says 9. It wasn’t in the whisky section, but in the back right corner near the wine fridge. It was a strange find for me since I rarely go to that location cause it is tiny and thus not usually a huge selection.

@boatracer my bad, thought it was the 12 cask strength, the regular 12 is a nice pickup at $54 as well.

Buffalo Trace Stagg Jr.

I didn't even know it was available until @Astroke mentioned it in a post here. I wasn't able to get it online like him but thanks to @paddockjudge's CEO I was able to secure a supply of the 2017 batch. It's 0.25% lower ABV than last year. I'm really looking forward to trying the last of my first bottle H2H with the new batch.

This stuff seems to disappear quickly at the LCBO.

@Nozinan, @Astroke, staffers at the local store weren't aware it was in stock. They dug two out of the back.... finally getting some premium offerings up north.
