@OdysseusUnbound So many people with NBC bottles already...It drives me nuts that bottles are released at stores without adding to the store inventories, giving insiders and employees the first crack. Not to mention everyone seems to have different information regarding the release, nothing concrete from anyone. I think we are purposely being whipped into a frenzy so that shelves are cleared before we have half a mind to think rationally about the release. Everyone just grabs what they can get their hands on.

@Mancub That's exactly why @Talexander's approach is best. Let the dust settle and then pick something up if available. If not, there will be another release of something good in the future. Ultimately there will be more good whisky made than bottles of it you can safely drink...

I think I'm only aware of one release in Ontario of Lot 40, and I agree this was in poor taste by LCBO. Reminds me of a special bottle at a table at SOT where I kept being told it would e opened later. Meanwhile one of my acquaintances comes up and asks me if I tried it because he just got some (before the opening time) and all I got was to smell the bottle.

The Lot 40 I was able to get (haven't touched it yet) was sold in Calgary and I let everyone know as soon as I had confirmed its availability. They have a less centrally-controlled system there.

@Mancub I hope to get my hands on a Lot 40 CS, but if I don’t, well I won’t get too bent out of shape over it. I’m getting a free bottle of Glenfarclas 12, I believe I have a bottle of reasonably-priced Uigeadail waiting for me in Toronto, and I may have won the NFL suicide pool at work (barring a Broncos comeback). So I’m not too bad right now.

I just bought 3 and am waiting on delivery, praying I get to the door before my better half!

Kilchoman Machir Bay - Never had it but tried the Senaig at a festival and was impressed. Like what the distillery is doing in production terms, I like peaty whiskys and only hear good things. Will it rival Ardbeg 10?

Kilkerran 12 - I have one in the bunker but know they are limited and get snapped up quick so more of a buy before it's gone - it will be drunk, I promise! Also at £35 which, by all accounts, is excellent vfm.

Arran 14 - Again, had at a festival and was one I'd wanted for a while after being impressed with the 10, very impressed, actually. This was no different, so fruity and that malty, musty, dunnage, thing going on. Yes, please!

Also picked up an Eagle Rare 10 recently as it was long on my list and am currently having the real pleasure of getting acquainted. Will do a review soon.

Over the weekend I bought Amrut Fusion, mainly on the basis I have heard many good things from a number of different sources and it has come back to the LCBO recently. Had my first taste last night and I think it lives up to the complements so many people have placed upon it. It is Batch 58 for anyone who knows what that is. The seal on the cork said it was bottled in January 2015.

@MadSingleMalt

@boatracer, that Fusion is pretty distinctive, isn't it?

I only ever had one bottle in 2014, but I remember it having a unique "dry heat" quality to it. I'm sure there was some major power of suggestion going on there, but it really felt like it came from India—or at least, from my vague notion of what India is like.

Assuming my memory of it is accurate, I could pick it out of blind peater lineup every time.

I didn’t buy it, but my wife sent me this picture today. I’m in Sudbury with my kids while she’s doing some renovations. The Glenfarclas rep stopped by. Huzzah !!!

@Nozinan Coulda, woulda, shoulda....I haven’t seen my parents or my sister in 2 months, so it was nice to hang out. I almost had a heart attack when I thought I saw a bottle of Lot 40 CS in the liquor cabinet, but alas, it was just a trick of the lighting. Though sipping the “standard” Lot 40 was still quite enjoyable.

Picked up a bottle of Tomatin Cu Bocan yesterday. a) because it was on sale and b) because a reliable whisky buddy said it was very good, despite being NAS. At least it's NCF. I'll try it tonight.

@Astroke Very nice! I'm hoping to grab a Kilkerran this week. For the most part I think they are to drop on Saturday the 28th, at least the vintages catalogue has that as the release day and HelloLCBO told me the same. You never know with the LCBO though, inventory pops up in the strangest and times. Supposed to be more NBC this week though! I work from home so am planning to keep my browser refreshed with the hopes of an online Lot40CS release. fingers crossed

I just purchased, today, a bottle of the 15yo Glen Scotia.

Why?

  1. After watching three reviews on Youtube, Whisky Whistle, Ralfy, and (Hörst) Whisky.com, I found it appealing.
  2. I didn't have any whiskies from the Campbeltown area.
  3. For 85 USD (which includes tax), I concluded it was worth the try, especially for something that is 15yo.
  4. I usually am a try before buy consumer, but where I live I haven't seen this available in bars to try.

After a week and a half had passed by, after watching the youtube reviews, I decided to get it. (please note, the image used was taken from the Glen Scotia Website)

At our basketball draft tonight, one of the league members works for Corby's and generously gave me a bottle of the 21 YO Pike Creek Finished in Speyside Casks.

I've only tried Pike Creek once before (Shoto) and that was very early days. Will one day do a tasting of the Pike, Dissertation and Danfield's 21 to taste the goodness and differences
