@Robert99 - I imagine the 18 being lovely and I really enjoyed the 12. Seems to have jumped up in price a lot recently and close to £100 here so out of my range. Hey ho! Do let us know what you think . . . I can always be persuaded ;)

I have only had one bottle of the Bunna 18 and it was a beauty. That was about a year ago and the price has now made it prohibitive. Too bad. Maybe I'll start dropping some Xmas hints.

Another couple of bottles of the Longmorn 16 Year Old from the recently discontinued bottling batch.

Managed to get a really good price for these.

These beauties just arrived . . . my Benromach 15 has been sanctioned though so I won't see it again until the 25th. Bah humbug! wink

The Cutty Sark is also NCF which was an unknown bonus.

@RianC nice haul, I like this variant of Port Charlotte quite a bit. The cutty sark is a very punchy, oak and lemon forward with a kind of peppery finish, my first two bottle we're amazing my last one less so but still better than most blends especially in the price range.

Let me know how you find the Ben 15 when you get to it, I love the 10 and was curious to see if the 15 is of a similar profile.

@cricklewood - Will do! I tasted the BR15 at a festival a few months back and it really stood out; very similar to the 10 but more complex, richer, fuller and quite unique.

I think the man at the BR stand may have thought I had a crush on him I was that gushing in praise wink

Can't wait to give it some proper attention.

@RianC I only have a taste of the 10 CS and it was great, with cake spices and leather (That's why I have an unopened bottle of it). If the 15 is more complex and richer, it must be something to praise, but shhhhh, we don't need people to hear about it (Except our Connosr's friends). wink

I've had a bottle of Benromach 10 for a while which I might open tomorrow night. I actually wish I'd brought the 100 proof. Not tried Benromach yet. So still looking forward to it.

Other than Glenfarclas 15 I've yet to locate a 'must have' Speysider. (I liked Glendronach 15 but they stopped making it). Other whisky regions of Scotland I've got whiskies I always tend to have in the house Lagavulin and Ardbeg from Islay. Old Pulteney from the Highlands. Springbank from Campbelltown. Talisker and Highland Park from island. But most Speysiders disappoint me and it's not the style of whisky, mostly it's the presentation. They always tend to be overmanufactured, under strength and overpriced (or just bland) for the most part. So I've got high hopes for the Benromach.

@Wierdo The ben 10 is a lovely kind of old school whisky (says the guy under 40 confounded ), I find it to be also one of those chameleon malts. It shifts around on you, some days the peat is quite present, other times that kind of apricot and sherry thing, other days it's the shoe polish and leafy side that peaks out. It also get really good after some time open, the last third of my bottle was so delicious and made me regret not buying a half dozen.

@RianC have you used The Whisky World before? I'd not heard of them but am quite impressed with them. Ordered 2 bottles of Springbank at 4pm Weds they were delivered by 2pm Thurs and that was the free delivery I didn't pay extra for next day. Most of their prices are comparable to TWE and MOM but their threshold for free delivery is lower at orders above £75 rather than £100.

@Wierdo - No but I'll check it out, thanks.

Get that Ben 10 cracked . . . you won't regret it!

On a blind taste I reckon i'd have it as a Highland whisky over a Speyside.

I was gifted a bottle of the "new" Miyagikyo NAS 700ml by a work friend who just came back from Japan. Looking forward to comparing it to the 500ml "old" Miyagikyo NAS.

@Nozinan It's funny, but I don't think of A`Bunadh as a Speysider. Benromach 10 is one for me, even if I agree with @RianC that it is close to an Highlander.

@OdysseusUnbound so you will be the appeal judge...though I can't understand why anyone would appeal my verdict.

@OdysseusUnbound

@Nozinan I'm not sure. I feel like doctors have a higher social standing than teachers, at least here in Ontario, where every provincial election is open season on teachers, so your opinion should carry more weight than mine.

@OdysseusUnbound You guys have got nothing on the poor, beleaguered teachers of BC who suffered 16 years of oppression from the previous government. That governing party (who call themselves Liberals, but are in fact a load of far right conservatives) even ignored Supreme Court rulings. Thankfully they are now gone.

Just purchased Longrow 18 and Glen Scotia 15. These were purchased online in Alberta for shipping to Ontario. Shipping was $30 CAD. F the LCBO.

@OdysseusUnbound It's been a difficult time for teachers, but also for doctors, united against the government but not united in any other way. I wish WE had a real union....

I will have to settle for what's left of my Wiser's UNION 52.

@Astroke Would you mind saying where you bought them and how you arranged the shipping?

Astroke replied

@BlueNote Zyn.ca, the checkout prompts you for store pickup or out of town shipping, once you enter your address and checkout they send you an order confirmation and you will receive a second email for shipping costs (which I have gotten yet). I spoke with a manager and he gave me all the info, shipping to Ontario would be 5 days. Probably a couple days for you. I had heard of them before but when someone told me they do it all the time I jumped on it. You can also call them and talk to a Brynne, she is the manager and she will take care of it.

Ardbeg OOGIE-$95+5% for example. Lots of Independent bottlers, lots of Springbank-$67 10 year. I think 2 bottles will cost me $30 shipping.

@Astroke Looking at some of the prices, this isn't such a bad deal. Amrut cask strength form $71 plus tax, Ben 10/100 for around $90, Macallan 25 for < $1700!

I did crack open the Ben10 last night. Enjoyed it. It changed quite a lot in the glass. Didn't pick up the peat at all, until I'd been sipping it for about half an hour. Very good whisky for the price.

Think I'll get a bottle of the 100 proof at some point to compare. I like the fact that it is not just Sherry and nothing else like a lot of Speysiders.

@Nozinan I’ve compared their prices with kwm, co-op, and willow park. Theirs are better. They have highland park 18 on for 143 right now. It’s 200 in Ontario.

@Nozinan I figure a couple of bottles every other month will take the burden off my sister to ship to me from Halifax and I get to sift through a more interesting selection, especially all those IB's that they have.

@Wierdo - Yes it is one of those that seems to shift with every pour/sip. I take that to be the sign of a well made whisky?! The ginger and peat notes seemed very hard to pin down.

The 10 CS is a different beast but I was able to do a side by side a while back and it was very interesting. While the CS has much more power and, as @Robert99 mentions, more leather and tobacco notes, I still reckon my preference of the two would vary day to day.

Naked Grouse - It was on offer at £20 (Waitrose), which for a malt blend is pretty good vfm; it gets decent reviews, can/will be used by my better half as a mixer (?) and will likely contain Macallan, Highland Park and Genrothes. Wanted to try it for a while.

Gonna have to show more steely resolve over the next month or so as there are some pretty decent offers flying about and eyebrows were raised after buying this . . .
