@OdysseusUnbound I've tasted some of that Weller Full Proof. That one is well worth having. (I noticed the pun on 'Weller' after the fact.) Offer me a Weller Full Proof or a Stagg Jr and I will take the Weller Full Proof 7 days out of the week.
@Astroke is right about Old Forester 1920. Thoroughly righteous bourbon. Get you some of that.
There isn't much out of Old Forester about which I get excited. I like the Birthday Bourbons and the 75th Anniversary Repeal Bourbon. Other than that, from them, I like Old Forester 1920.

@Astroke OF 1920 is listed, but not available. Which means, effectively, anyone NOT in the GTA has approximately no chance of getting any. It will randomly pop up in some Toronto and area stores and then be gone. Oh well. We, the unwashed masses outside the GTA, will have to be content to dream.

Well, put myself down for one of everything in the lottery, we'll see what happens! If I win everything, it will cost me $2200 (which is around what I paid for a single bottle of Pappy 20 a few years ago).

Decisions, Decisions.
I'm not so much into wheated bourbons, but I guess I should try for the Weller FP. Sounds like a "Weller Jr" the way they did with Stagg.
What is the other lesser Weller supposed to be?

@Nozinan yes Weller Full Proof is completely parallel to Stagg Jr: higher ABV and intermediately aged. I found it delicious and wanted some. It is scarce as hen's teeth around this region. I haven't been able to buy any yet.
Weller Full Proof is a lot like a higher ABV version of Old Weller Antique 107, except that it might average a little older whiskey, and its small batch release and higher price tag suggests a lot of first rate barrel selection. That all sounds good, but the bottom line is always the same: I did in fact taste it, and it was love at first sip.

@Nozinan The Weller C.Y.P.B. (craft your perfect bourbon) is reportedly “a wheated recipe bourbon, aged on the highest warehouse floors for eight years and bottled at 95 proof.”

@OdysseusUnbound This will be available online. You just need to check in occasionally. The JD BP was available online (albeit sold out quickly) and also bottles were/are scattered throughout the province. Where I live in Ancaster is not exactly the whisky hub of Ontario. When I decide I want a bottle that will be available online, I will check regularly for stock and online.

@OdysseusUnbound OK. Definitely not in my usual sphere of influence.

Well, bust my britches - I done got me a Van Winkle 12!

@talexander There must have been a decent quantity of the Lot B because I have heard about 20 people that were allotted bottles and over half of them were the VW 12. I was a dismal 0 for 23 entries, Randal Gritchuk like numbers.

@talexander I didn’t know you worked for the LCBO!

@Astroke according to #s posted on reddit (from a credible poster & consistent with prior year #s) there were 255 bottles of the 12 compared to the next highest, ORvW10 at 69 reddit.com/r/canadawhisky/… In that discussion, its estimated LCBO received ~10,000 orders. My guess is most people placed multiple orders (ex a guy at work got at least 25 people to place orders for him). I estimate no more than 2000 real customers. Therefore, one in 5 to 10 people "won" the right to buy a Weller 12yo, errrr I mean a van Winkle Special Reserve 12yo, "lot b"

Anyone partaking in the LCBO/Waddington's spirits online auction? It ends around 4pm today. Looks like I'm still in the running for a Bushmills CS single barrel, Jameson Special Reserve ("100 Years of Radio" edition) which I probably overbid on, and Yamazaki "Essence of Suntory Whisky". Trying hard to hang onto fairly low bids...of course I don't know why I'm telling you this since you'll try to outbid me now...

@talexander I'm not partaking in the auction. My voyeuristic side has been monitoring prices. The bourbon craze is in full bloom.

@talexander I’ll just live vicariously through you.

@talexander Next auction, put your Lot B on as the they seem to be a tad overbid in the $1,200.00+ range, hahaha

@fiddich1980 Black Bowmore 2nd edition can only garner a $4k bid (24,000.00 pounds at the Whisky Exchange) and the idiots line up to bid Lot B and Rip 10 to $1,300.00. So wish I had not opened either back in the day as the Lot B is as underwhelming a Bourbon for the hype I have ever had.

@Astroke It is truly bananas. LCBO is such an enabler. They sell me a bottle for $150, then 3 months later they will help me flip it for $1000+. Except I'm not going to do that...

@Astroke I wasn't tracking that one as I was assuming it would go crazy.... but $4K for that bottle sounds like a good investment...hmmmmm

@Astroke No need to give @talexander helpful advice. What I find shocking is Barterhouse ever look at the bottle number on the label?.

@talexander I know a couple guys that are scratching their heads over the low price. Is the opening price a reserve?

@talexander and the Four Roses 125th Anniversary limited edition looks to be going for $550-$600. That is as fine Bourbon that has ever graced the planet yet the hipsters would rather own a Rip 10 which is at best a chaser for the FR's 125th.

@Astroke I have a Four Roses 125th that I paid retail for when it came out - so I won't be doing that one! But people are going crazier over these Pappys/Van Winkles worse than over toilet paper at a No Frills.

@talexander Yup, the 10 and 12 out price the BTAC's at Waddington's which is proof that a "Sucker is born every day"

Believe it or not, Pam TALKED ME OUT OF bidding on the Black Bowmore - she knows it's a tight month. So maybe next time.....sob.

@talexander - well, in those zombie films toilet paper is always the first thing everyone stocks up on so . . . it's obvious when you think about it!

Well, I got the Jameson - with buyers premium + tax, about $285. onlineauctions.waddingtons.ca/ItemView.asp…
