After a wonderful and flavorful dinner, I wanted something potent and robust ... so sampled a few peaty 46ers: CompassBox Peat Monster ... rich and smoky (not really a monster though), some rootbeer flavors, interesting and nice; Bruichladdich PEAT ... rich, peaty, oakey, nutty and creamy, lovely; Talisker 10 (to compare to @Victor and @BlueNote) ... over a year old, like a very nice salty and sprirted highland, not too smoky ... but lost some of its pizazz, as some peaty malts tend to do; finally Ardbeg 10 ... just like new after a year ... salty, seaweed (like I had for dinner) ... like the sea, sweet, warm ... the best.

Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist. I'm finding this more complex than the Laphroaig18 and the Laphroaig30. My current new favorite.

@whiskyshiba, yes, Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist really is an enchanting whisky.

@Victor, Your excellent review of the Uigeadail has opened the Ardbeg Pandora's Box for me. I thank you. I regret avoiding this distillery all this time due to the hype, but the hype is well deserved.

@spiritsafe Excellent Reviews of the two Laphroaig 15 & 18! I still have 2 unopened 15's I kept back when they discontinued it. The 15 is definitely my favorite Laphroaig I've tried but now I must decide if I should keep them for future special occasions or sell them and use the profit for less worthy expressions... I AM SO TORN!

Friday night was a night of sampling my new cross-border acquisitions from Chicago with my friend next door...Koval Lion's Pride Dark Wheat Whiskey (100% wheat mashbill!!...very nice/smooth), Evan Williams 'Binny's Handpicked' Single Barrel (2000), and Four Roses 'Binny's Handpicked' Single Barrel (OESQ recipe). Enjoyed the Evan Williams so much that I sampled it again later in the evening while sitting on the front porch with my wife, during a partly cloudy evening that created an interesting moon-lit night effect. Very enjoyable.

@scotchtoad No you don't sell the 15yr Laphroaig. You pack them up and send them to your Single Malt brethren in the southern United States. Specifically, in the Atlanta, Georgia area. More specifically, me. You certainly don't want such valued treasures falling into unappreciative hands, do you?

Old Ballantraun! "One of the rare peated Speyside single malts - this one from Tomintoul Distillery. If you like Ardbeg Very Young, you should like this." bit.ly/jyLk3A

Macallan Cask Strength...almost on par with the 18Yr old. But a bit feminine compared to the the Abelour A' Bunadh.

First Wiser's Legacy. Next Highland Park 18 side by side with Highland Park 15. My bottle of HP 15 is much more strongly sherried than is my bottle of HP 18. Is that everyone else's experience?

Amrut Peated! It's come half way around the world for me to drink. Wild. Tasty, too.

First Redbreast 12 yr, now Slieve Foy 8 yr. I suppose I was really in the mood for Irish whiskey!

Just returned from a whisky tasting - Macallan 12, 15, 17, and 21. Highland Park 25, and Kilchomman Summer 2010.

Just returned from a weekend in Scotland and tasted quite a few magical things. However, the two most magnificent drams were the Glen Garioch 1958 (46 year old) and (roll the drums) the Bowmore 1965 42 Year Old Premier Range - a £6000 bottle! Amazing whisky, let me tell you!

Connosr.com will hopefully be around 100 years from now in some form. If it is, I fully expect that we will be reading post # 153,467 of "So, what are you drinking now?". Wodha, you have spawned a discussion group for the ages.

Great post @Victor! Any bets on if/when there will there be more replies to this thread than reviews and/or members? :)

@Pudge72, great subjects for speculation! These questions will require some research, contemplation, and calculation, I think.

@Victor I'm surprised myself. I typed the question more as a test of this message board than anything meant to last. Must have struck a nerve. It is fun though. I wonder if there's a limit to the number of possible replies? I need to make some t-shirts with this most profound of questions across the chest.

@Wodha, I think that the shirt idea is a great one, although there will no doubt be those who will not understand in the general population. But for us, as long as there are people drinking whisky, "So, what are you drinking now?" will always remain one of the most relevant of questions.

@Victor ...no doubt this contemplation and calculation will need to be pursued while enjoying a dram of (fill in the blank here). :)

@Pudge72, these questions will likely occupy the mind through MANY drinks and MANY 'now's!

@Wodha I have just purchased a bottle of "Old Ballantraun" on a whim (and as a fan of Ardmore). I have not opened it yet, but it's nice to read that someone likes it ;-)
