Tonight's dance ticket, for me: whiskyguild.com/washingtondc.html Whisky Guild's Whisky Cruise DC, 3 1/2 hrs, Potomac River Cruise, unlimited sampling, 100+ whiskies, partial whisky menu listed, including dinner, for $ 128. Are any of you other Connosr members also coming along? I believe that there are still about 15 tickets remaining.

Whisky Cruise totals for me, from last night: 28 whiskies (too many to name). I enjoyed most Balvenie 21 yo Portwood and the Compass Box Peat Monster RESERVE. That Peat Monster Reserve leaves a big peat finish that lasts for about an hour!

@Victor This is something I think my wife and I would really love. I have put myself on the mailing list and will make plans to be at the 2012 cruis. Looks like way too much fun.

Kilbeggan 18 year old - lovely Irish dram with hints of honeysuckle, Madagascan vanilla pods, wood sap and a lush herbaceous nose.

@Victor the idea of a whisky cruise as you describe it blows my mind.

@Wodha, the cruise was a big rush and a lot of fun. There was an overwhelming cornucopia of tasting experiences available, and hundreds of people wandering around with Glencairns. On the difficult side with respect to the one I attended, there were some specific whiskies I expected would be represented which were not offered. I am not at all sure why that particular organization, the Whisky Guild, does not lock in a pour list in advance and stick to it. It is probably some relationship with distributors which allows the distributors to pick the whiskies offered. If you are flexible, there is much more available than one has the time (and for those of us who generally 'swallow') the alcohol capacity for. I could easily have gone back and filled a second evening tasting whiskies among those offered which I had not sampled the first night.

First impressions of Glenfarclas 15 and 105 while watching the departed. The 105 has more burn and get the tip of the hat for now though the 15 is more complex and will grow.

Jim Beam Devil's Cut and I am asking myself, "Why?" Not at all pleased with the flavors, better with a drop of water, but thinking of tossing the rest of it into some Dr. Pepper over ice. @Victor and I got it try out of curiosity and that is what I think of it...a curiosity. The end.

@Dramlette Something told me there was no planet on which that would taste good. I feel the same way about some more northern expressions. :)

It's not cold, it's not raining. It's sunny and hot. It's a perfect day at the beach. This is not my favorite dram of all time, but today it might be the perfect beach dram: Scapa 16yr. Light, tastey, great sea side dram.

@markjedi1 Realy rather jealous over your old whiskys, best old whisky I've had so far is a 1966 Lagavulin straight from the cask on the warehouse tour, truly special post breakfast dram!

Back in the real world of the daily dram it is the ever lovely Talisker 10.

@Dramlette - I was curious about the 'Devil's Cut'...sounds like a triumph of marketing to a 'T'. I like the bad whiskey with Dr. Pepper (my favourite pop) 'on the rocks' idea...there's always a silver lining!

First Old Potrero 18th Century Style Whiskey: it makes me laugh it is so wonderfully intense! Next, Highland Park 12. Now that my bottle of HP 12 has finally opened up it is delightful. Sure, there is plenty of nice peat and plenty of pleasant brine, but the quality of the barley flavours in the Highland Park is just extraordinary! The barley really makes it sing.
