@Lars I, too, lost a friend today. Younger than me (that's getting to be easier and easier to be). He was healthy, robust, alive. I don't get it.

Here's a Warsteiner to your friend and mine.

Just went out for a lovely dinner that started with a dram of Bowmore 25 year old. Easily one of my top three favourite whiskies, and the best part is that due to an incongruence between two of their menus I got 2.5oz for the price of 1oz.

Two core expressions from Isle of Arran, their 10 year old and their 14 year old. Both very enjoyable experiences, but preferred the 14 over the 10. Two more years to wait before their 18 year old can be released. Impressive drams from this young distillery.

@DaveWorthington - yes, I also have a bottle of the Arran 14 and love it! Oh, and right now am drinking Deanston Virgin Oak and Bruichladdich Organic - both of which I like but don't love...

@talexander Spooky! I was reading your review of the Deanston Virgin Oak when you reply to my post came through!

Try this: George T Stagg followed by Templeton Rye. I get overpowering mint. Like chewing mint leaves. Wild.

I finally managed to track down a bottle of Sheep Dip "Old Hebridean 1990" which I will be opening very shortly.

To warm up my taste buds, I've got a dram of Glenlivet 12. It was taking up space on my shelf with just as splash left, so I figured I'd put it to rest and move on to the (hopefully) good stuff!

Just picked up a Black Bottle 10 Year while travelling, along with an exciting find of Ledaig 10 Year 46% ! My 1st impressions of the Black Bottle is semi-sweet, delicious peat, and the bottle nose is that of wonderful chocolate and dried fruit. This could become a "goto" Islay for me ... it's really enjoyable :-)

Got a bottle of Dalmore Grand Reserva as a present - after some time in the glass it really opened up and wasn´t bad at all - luscious Sherry with hints of spices and orange, malty, chocolate and some coffee; actually quite good with a cigar (no surprise as this was formerly known as "cigar malt")

I'm about half way done with a bottle of 18yr Talisker. I don't care who you are or what you say, that is just about the best dram of whisky I've ever had. And for $70? Tell me something that's better. You'll have a hard time. Man, that stuff is good. If I don't have to send my kids to private school next, I'm drinking the stuff every day.

@ClaySomething Ah...I am reminiscing about my last bottle of Taliker 18 which was over three years ago. I have been on the hunt ever since but I cannot find a bottle of 18yr old anywhere...certainly nothing in my province (BC). Enjoy that bottle my friend...it may be hard to replace down the road.

Bruichladdich 'INFINITY' 2nd Edn. @ 52.5% abv. My local (Vintage Cellars) has restocked with this fine 'drop' and are offering a 10% discount which makes it Au.$76.49. I'm good with that!

As usuat I transferred it into a large decanter but it smelt good, very good in fact, so I poured a small one - This is not my usual practise but the aroma even freshly opened was inviting to say the least & the mouth-feel is sensational; maybe it's the Rioja influence for it has none of the oft encounted tacky sherry notes:This is delicious with no off notes anywhere.

There is soft smoky peat but it is very much in the background though I suspect that it has quite some influence on the rich malty palate.

Even at this early stage this Whisky would seem to have everything, all in the right places and beautifully in balance. A finely structured Whisky with layers of flavour - The empty glass shows peat, smoky malt and a smooth toffee aroma.

I'll try to give it the usual couple of weeks in big glass but honestly I don't think it could be much better.

Cheers.

@hawkscotch I know. My first bottle of 18yr sat in my cabinet for three years. I only opened it after I discovered my local store (Atlanta) had received some inventory. I am now enjoying a bottle and saving a bottle.

At the moment my two main bottles of enjoyment are The Spice Tree and Tomatin Decades. Both quite different yet both an absolute dream to drink! I've reviewed the Spice Tree on the site already so i wont bore you with the details, however the Decades, well after trying it at TWE Whisky Show last year i had to walk away with a bottle, a lot going on in there actually, complicated but not in a bad way!

Just opened a new chieftain's bottling of Clynelish 18yr.... nice, much bolder than the distillery 14yr. Not as well balanced, but more adult with more substance behind it. A different experience than expected for sure.

Earlier this evening I had a gin martini (Tanqueray No. 10) and now that my daughter has fallen asleep, relaxing with a Talisker Distiller's Edition. Next week though I get to enjoy a Hibiki 12, thanks to my whisky mule of an ex-wife and her trip this weekend to NYC!

Aberfeldy 21 yrs. I've only gotten around to smelling it though. Soon I'll have a taste. It's pretty heavy on the vegetables on the nose. Not a smell I've encountered that often from a whisky.

@coin Nope, this was not one of my favorites. Too bitter for my taste and both dry and thin with a short aftertaste. I wasn't expecting a 90+ malt either, but even with low expectations I'm still a bit disappointed. :( As luckmhas it, I have loads of malts to choose my second dram from. :)

@Victor how did you like the St. George Absinthe? I have a bottle of absenta tunel I received quite a few years back from my late father in law when he went to Spain. I have personally been a little chicken to try it.

High West Bourye.

Nicely done. The rye overpowers the corn early on and never backs off. Herbs. Spices. Dangerously smooth.
