@maltster - it was actually the 2nd edition (in case I didn't mention it when I poured it for @misslauren and everyone else).

@A'bunadhman: that's actually not a bad tip even for good whiskies. A bit of air often calms the whisky down. Not always ofcourse, but more often than one might think. My rule of thumb is 1 minute rest for each year in the barrel. Seems to work ok. And it's good for ones discipline too. :)

@misslauren...Congratulations on the Lagavulin 16 pickup! You will likely find the smokiness fade somewhat over time, but it will be replaced with really nice sweet note that seems to have revealed different notes (to my palate at least) almost each time you try a dram.

The Bruichladdich 18 2nd edition that you tried in Toronto last week is available here in Ontario, for Can$140 (taxes included in that price)...your best bet looks to be to take the QEW to Oakville (Trafalgar exit) to the LCBO on Cornwall Drive (just south of the QEW) where they have both Bruichladdichs in stock. That store also happens to have one of the largest scotch selections in the province, outside of a couple of Toronto stores.

@coin: The funny thing is, I had 2 bottles, one from Auckland Duty Free, 1litre @ 50.1abv. and it opened beautifully and the one from Brisbane 1litre @ 50.5abv. the one that took 6 weeks to get going - I'm sure the Bris. bottle was a much older batch; they are both delicious but quite different. One spicy & crisp, and the older version (?) herbacious, fragrant and soft!

Sharing a bottle of Hibiki 12 with friends which usually do not drink Whisky . As the bottle is now empty they liked it a lot... Finished the night with a great Springbank 18.

Decided to go for a sherried evening. Started with The Macallan 10 Year Old, then moved onto Auchentoshan Three Wood and finished off the evening with Aberlour A'Bunadh, a bottle from batch 37.

@Wodha, I suspected as much! But, then, you don't maintain 150 open bottles either, do you?

I attended a wee rum tasting today with some interesting spirits like Clement single cask and Clement Canne Bleue, some Berry Bros. Rums, Renegade Rums by Bruichladdichs' Jim McEwan etc. but the best part was that I got a dram of Glenugie 1977/2011 Signatory which was very good and a Signatory Cask Strength Linithgow 28 from 1982 with 63,1%; as it was 11 o'clock I used a spittoon but not for the Whiskies...

I sampled PC7 last night due to the generosity of a fellow member of the Loch & K(e)y Society. Very nice, but I think I prefer the 6 just a tad more. I'm looking forward to trying more of the PC series in a few weeks at Go Whisk(e)y Weekend.

@Victor I wish I could have that many open bottles at once! But when you are never living in the same place for very long, it makes moving very difficult… and when it's moving internationally… it means a lot of wasted nectar. I keep it between 10 and 15 bottles.

What I like is having extensive enough variety available that I can pick the whisky that matches the exact mood or frame of mind of the moment. @OCealleigh, moving the lot would indeed be difficult! What's your fach?

My first Glen Scotia, a 1992 by Gordon and MacPhail (bottled 2009). Smoke and fruit nose, "in your face" dusty palate, and a "bitey" lingering phenolic maritime finish.. good stuff!

A few sips of Bruichladdich Infinity 3rd Edition. A very strange malt imho. I also wrote a short review of it. I bet some of you like it and some of you don't, it's a very difficult malt to place.

@Wodha, love the Deanston Virgin Oak. My sister gave me one of her calls from the liquor store floor today, while staring at the Deanston Virgin Oak. With any luck she picked up a bottle of it. She always shares with her brother. A good sister.

We went out for dinner last night -- just because -- and I tried Caribou Crossing Single Barrel. I also sampled a flight of the new Eades Double Malt releases (Speyside, Highland, and Islay).

A bit of sad news received today my neighbor passed away yesterday. Unfortunately I don't have any of his sljivovica (plum liquor) he liked so tonight drink a dram of Aberlour A'bunadh in his memory. Rest in peace my friend.
