Just poured my last 30 cc of Amrut Fusion. A treat to have the last dram as good as the first. I have another bottle of this stashed away somewhere. Sadly, there are many I plan to try before I can get back to this excellent single malt.

But think of all the memories..... Turn that frown, upside down. ;)

@Nozinan I got it from the sweetest lady on earth because she I helped her leaving her old boyfriend. And I was just being honest ;) I told her only once that it was the most awesome whisky I ever tasted and she managed to find a bottle:) I squeezed it till it almost shattered haha. Lets hope the new Loch Gorm will make it up a little, can't frckn wait till it arrives

3.5 years after we visited the distillery, the bottle of Octomore /4_167 we bought at Bruichladdich finally gave its last. Awww, man. I miss it already. I don't think it was as ridiculously intense as it was when we first bought it, but it was still so good.
Guess when I replace it it'll be with a bottle of 10-year Ardbeg. I think that's the closest approximation, given what we usually get in Ontario...

This past week saw the end of a bottle of Bowmore Tempest, Batch 2. It took quite a while for me to "get it", but the last quarter of the bottle was quite enjoyable. It is definitely a good swimmer. I'm still not sold on the Bowmore profile, but someone has kindly provided me with a sample of the Laimrig, because if I'm going to love Bowmore at all, it will be a cask strength, sherry influenced, bottle. Crossing fingers!

@talexander...I know....I am tempted, but my next whisky dollars will be going towards a sherry based/influenced bottle or three (Laimrig...possibly, Abunad'h, and Glenfarclas 15 are the most likely). I'll likely wait for another batch of the Tempest.

I had got a bottle of HP12 down to it's last few drams. It had oxidized to it's best with a wonderfully sweet sherry arrival and soft heather flavor. Instead of enjoying the last bit myself, I gave it away to a friend. He is not a scotch drinker. I hope that his tasting of HP12 at it's best might add a new whisky buddy into my immediate circle of friends. I call it my "share a dram program!" Besides, HP12 is readily available for me and rather cheap at $46. I'll replace the bottle tomorrow. Getting some air space in the new bottle will be a torturous chore but I'm sure I can handle it! :)

Four Roses 125thSmall Batch Cask Strength - this was a stunner! I'm looking forward to this year's autumn limited release.

Finished a 100ml. sample I'd saved of Knob Creek 50% - It cost my wife less than US.$28.00 ($27 and change) in Chicago under the "L" at a large cut-price (?), two doors from a very good Japanese Dine in / Take Away: It's been in the back of the cabinet for about 5 years with very little air-space and is / was fantastic! Dan Murphy's price then about AU.$80.00, now, AU.$84.99. That's some price-hike!
Cheers.

Killed the last of my Sazerac Rye (baby Saz). It was the first rye whisky I ever tired. Every time I finish a bottle of it I think it will be my last. But when I see that bottle shape on the shelf . . . I can't seem to help myself. It just looks cool on my shelf (even if it could taste better)

@A'bunadhman.... great idea. I've been really trying to explore bourbons and ryes here lately , so my single malts don't get a lot of attention. HP12 is a daily drinker for me though so getting it some air quickly would be a godsend when I'm craving a pour from a newish bottle. I haven't finished a bottle recently but I noticed my Glenmo Nectar needs to be polished off. Don't know if I'll replace it or buy something new to try in it's place? Always open to suggestions!

Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist - justifies the saying: "They sure don't make them like they used to!"...

Just finished a bottle of Laphroig quarter cask. I think that is damn good whisky for the money.

Bowmore 15YO "Darkest" - part of a 3X200ml set, only some of the 18 left. It's a nice whisky, but for the price there are better drams...

@yori I haven't been able to polish off my 3x50 cc set. Not a fan of the standard line. The Laimrig, though...

@Nozinan I agree! I had a bottle of 100 degrees proof, which I bought for the local pub at duty free, and it was vicious, and I don't meen it in a good way. It was very sulphury, to the point of burnt rubber. I told Bowmore and they wanted the bottle to replace it, but the next time I went to the pub it was gone, so I couldn't send it for anaysis, even as I think there was something wrong. They sent me the set as compensation. They are all nice, but for the money there is a much better Laphroaig than each of the three... As they were free I thoroughly enjoyed them...

@yori
Hmm...I actually tasted the 100 proof at a friend's and enjoyed it. Maybe it WAS the bottle...

Lately I've made an effort to clean up low-fill bottles and to create more shelf space. In the past month nearly twenty expressions have been retired from the existing open bottle inventory and additional cabinets have been introduced:) What was previously an overcrowded assortment (of opened bottles, to be opened bottles, and not soon to be opened bottles) is now organized into two independent sections; opened and unopened. Access is more convenient...and it looks awesome.

@paddockjudge
That it does, @paddockjudge, that it does.
I've been cutting down on my drinking, not that there's much less I could drink, but work, kids, summer heat and lack of interest have really "interfered". Over the next month or 2, I'm looking forward to finishing the following bottles that have been open for far too long (mostly the remnants are in sample bottles):
Booker's
Amrut Intermedite Sherry and Portonova
Laphroaig Quarter cask
Talisker 10 200 cc bottle (that's been a really slow burner Jean-Luc)
Bruichladdich Peat
HP 12
Aberlour A'Bunadh 36
Bladnoch 9 year old lightly peated (50 cc miniature)
Bowmore 12 15 and 18 miniatures
Macallan 25 (my last, preserved, 30cc worth)
So you can see why I say over the next month or two. In the meantime, I will try to keep the new bottle openings to a minimum.
Ah, the constant struggle and tension between trying something new, having something consistently around, and finishing what you have open.....
