@systemdown, whereabouts is this for under $60? nicks? dm?

@moy71 Hi moy71.. yeah my local DM in Brisbane. Must've been a Xmas sale or something because the advertised prices are now higher? I do notice not every DM is the same, they seem to have some flexibility in setting different prices from store to store. Vintage Cellars had it in the $60's too (or, at least my local did)!

The last week I polished off my bottles of Bunnahabhain 12 and Clynelish 14. I think I will replace the Bunny with the new Laddie 10 in the near future. As for the Clynelish, it's certainly a malt I will buy again sometime in the future.

A 200ml. Talisker 10yo. 'Love the Talisker! Next I'll probably open my litre bot. of T 57deg. and fill the empty 200ml. bot. as a referense point. The small bots. are great for saving samples - I fill them quite full & the Whisky keeps for years with no change in quality (none that I can notice, anyway), provided the sample is kept in a cool dark spot.

Cheers.

@rwbenjey, wish I could try the Bushmills 21 ... you have been lucky ! @ruralfrance, I share your grief ... my Bunnahabhain 12yr (40%) has only fumes left ... very nice soft and tasty whisky ! You may also like Singleton 12 and Jameson Special Reserve 12 Irish, and maybe Glenmorangie Lasanta and Glenrothes (any).

I took a bottle of Cragganmore DE 1992 over the weekend to a friends place for the Giants game. Dam it did not last a long! The bottle was gone and everyone comment on how good it was. a couple of them who are not malt drinkers loved it alot. for me it was amazing i enjoyed aswell, it reminded me of the Glenmorangie sonalta PX.

Chivas Regal 18 year old. It is overpriced and I will not get another. There are alot of better blends out there for alot less.

The cabinet at the office was stocked with Hibiki 12 this week. I've never tried Japanese whiskies before, and have been hoping for the occasion. This was a terrific start. I loved it! Apparently so did everyone else, because it was gone in 2 days.

I have to admit I was actually surprised at how much I liked it. I don't have much experience with blends, and tend to overlook them. More importantly, I have this internal pre/misconception about Japanese whisky as well... It all started with Japanese beer. A few years ago I was on a bit of a beer kick, and much of our domestic, & sometimes foreign travel included visits to breweries, and goal-oriented beer crawls. Beer was my thing & I loved many styles. I even brew my own to this day. Well, in Japan, we wanted to see what their beer culture was all about. We drank lots of local brands, and visited the Ebisu brewery. Japan takes their beer seriously, in that they brew according to German purity laws. They spent a lot of time talking about the method, and steadfast procedural consistency. It came out in the beer. Though it was technically flawless — crisp, clear, perfectly carbonated, balanced, etc. — it was missing something. IMHO, it was missing the heart, the soul, the artistic hand which is not ruled by regulation. That doesn't have to mean adding adjuncts or doing anything that would conflict with the purity laws. I just let my opinion color my perception of the whisky as well.

Boy was I wrong. This has a beauty and grace, a confident poise which is created by feel, not by checklist. Wonderful. Will be on the lookout for it again.

Finished off a bottle of Balvenie 12 tonight. I probably won't be buying another. It started out okay, but seemed to get bitterer as I got deeper into the bottle.

I finished off my bottle of Ardmore last night. Unfortunately I won't be able to get another one as it was the limited edition Loch & K(e)y Society bottling. Looks like I'll have to try the regular Ardmore and see how I like it.

I finished off my Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban last night during a side by side tasting of this and the Sonnalta PX. I enjoy both, though admittedly the Sonnalta is richer and more balanced. I won't be immediately restocking the QR but it will be back in my cabinet in the not too distant future. Most likely the replacement will be a Caol Ila.

I've just finished a bottle of Black Grouse, I was pleasantly surprised by this blended scotch, the Islay smokiness comes through nicely. This bottle was just £14 during the pre Christmas promotions, but I'm pleased it's gone so I have some room on my shelf for some new malts.

@DaveWorthington -- I tried Black Grouse last weekend. I'm thinking of getting a bottle at some point.

To keep on topic, I finished our bottle of Four Roses Yellow Label a few nights ago. We purchased it primarily for making Mint Juleps so I'm not sure if we're going to get another bottle.

I received a bunch of mostly empty bottles from a really good friend recently and so had friends over to help me finish them off over the weekend. Of the whole lot, we managed to finish the Glen Grant 16, L&K Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel, Tobermory 10, and Duncan Taylor NC2 Ben Nevis 12. They were mostly average.

I was surprised by the Tobermory 10 though, as I'd had it a couple of times before and was not that impressed. This time around it revealed flavors I hadn't tasted before. It was also the favorite of a woman who was new to whiskey. She had decided to try it and see just what her boyfriend had been going on about. :-)

Finished off a bottle of Buffalo Trace, and a bottle of Bruichladdich 16 Bourbon Cask today. They were part of the "inheritance" we tried on the weekend. I'll definitely get another bottle of BT, not sure about the Bruichladdich though.
