Felt sad that I didn't win any Van Winkle in the LCBO lottery, so I bought myself another bottle of A'Bunadh Batch 49. I'm happy now!

Has anyone seen the 50 yet in Ontario?

A few bottles of the Glenmorangie Tusail.

It just got released in Australia. Interested to see the effect of a different variety of barley on the distillate.

i just picked up Colkegan. quite impressed. smooth, with a very iinteresting (and nice) flavor from a mesquite smoking in place of peat. anyone else had it or heard of it?

(the why is cause i read about it and it sounded good.)

I just got two: Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban and Laphroaig Triple Wood. The first one because I wanted a sweet option in my cabinet and the 750ml was @ $37.99.The second one because I wanted a peaty option. This one is seasonal, limited, has a sweet touch to tame the peat monster, and it was on sale @ $54.99.

Wild Turkey Rye for my Old Fashioned addiction ;) Bowmore Cask Strength, one liter of CS Islay Scotch for just €41,50 seemed like a good deal. Didn't know anything about it but quite a low risk at this price.

I just bought a bottle of A'bunadh batch 50. For the most part, this was a impulse buy, since I've been wanting to try A'bunadh for a long time, but hadn't really given it serious consideration. I doubt it'll be a regular bottle to find in the stores here, so might as well pick one up.

I'm still searching for the 50. I hear that it is not as great as the 49 but it's still worth getting. I want to celebrate my 50th birthday with it in 2019 so I need to find a bottle now.

Let me know how you like it.

@Nozinan I'll get back to you once I've opened it.

I don't think they've ever sold the 49 here. Last I read, the retailer stopped selling A'bunadh all together once they found out that they had been selling batches with an alcoholic content above 60% - which is illegal here. I think it was back in 2007, but I might be wrong. Batch 49 is "too strong" for us up here in the cold north. :P

Last weekend I bought a bottle of Glen Moray 10 YO Chardonnay Matured. It's only 43% ABV, so why?

•My brother and I were on our way to a night of camping, and I wanted something he'd drink. He hates most scotch, especially the peaty stuff I usually drink.

•It was only $35—with an age statement for crying out loud.

•It's had some good reviews from online dudes whom I trust.

•It should be a good summer drinker on the rocks and whatnot. This year, I plan to go off peat for the summer as soon as my current open bottles are kaput, so's I can experience it anew in the fall.

•When I drink it, I get to hear Ralfy say "shar-DOONE-ay" in my head.

Just took delivery of a bottle of W.L. Weller 12-year old bourbon that I arranged to have purchased by a family friend traveling southern USA back in late January. While my February 2015 tasting experience in a Dallas whiskey bar with Weller 12yo left me unimpressed (flavor was very meek and mild), this stuff is a much different animal. Quite bold, but lacking some of the smoothness I expected. Not sure how I feel about this batch yet. Going to need some time. But I am much more interested in finding out than I was alittle over two months ago.

@cherylnifer, my first bottle of Weller 12 yo was also quite mild for a very long time. I had some from a bottle of @paddockjudge's a couple of weeks ago which was an entirely different and more vibrant experience. That bottle was great early in its lifespan. Maybe that explains why 84 bottles of Weller 12 were recently sold out, one at a time, within half an hour, the minute they were put up for sale in my county.

Kilchoman Machir Bay, and BenRiach 12 Sherry. Both reasonably priced, I have not tried anything yet by Kilchoman but have heard good things. I had the BenRiach Heredotus Fumosos and loved it so figured another sherried BenRiach would be a good option.

@Victor, @cherylnifer, I find W.L. Weller 12yo to be a delicious but fickle whiskey. The condition of your pallet, the amount of air, the temperature of the whiskey - all of these things must be perfect; however, some foods are complimentary to this particular whiskey, such as caramel corn, Poppycock (R), and my dear mother's absolutely delicious cinnamon buns. We had paired the Weller 12 and these heavenly cinnamon buns at the last tasting - both were incredible.

I visited Yoichi Distillery in Japan. So I made a point to get some distillery only bottling's (curiously, all the standard aged expressions where sold out there). I walked away with:

Yoichi 2000's 10 yr 57%

Yoichi 12 yr Peaty & Salty 55%

Yoichi 12 yr Woody & Vallinic 55%

...and elsewhere - Kirin Fuji Gotemba Tarujyuku 50°, because you can't go wrong with a 50% ABV blend at under $10

@Frost, How much did the Yoichi cost you at the distillery if I may ask? I am planning to visit Japan in July and was contemplating to visit either the Yamazaki or Yoichi Distillery? What were the prices for the Hibiki or Nikka expressions in Tokyo(if you went there). Which would be a good place to buy Japanese whisky in Tokyo city?

Corsair Triple Smoke.

I bought it because I first had it a couple weeks ago at an EPIC tasting amongst friends and really dug it. There is something about this whiskey that really gets me. It's very unique. From the great nose to the toasted marshmallow finish...they hit a homerun with this.

My next purchase will be a bottle of Octomore in a few weeks for my bday. After that, I really need to settle down with my whisk(e)y purchasing. I have so many bottles that it's bordering on absurd...for me anyhow.

@KRB80

How many is bordering on absurd? I worry I passed "absurd" and hit ridiculous a while back. That's why I originally set a goal to have no more unopened bottles by next year than I had Jan 1 this year. It soon became clear that that would not happen (I stocked up on Amrut peated and unpeated CS), so I decided to try to hold it to an increase of fewer than 10 bottles. I'll try to bring that down to 5 the year after that, and eventually reach a balance. At some point I will need to start drinking down the collection, unless I want to miss out on much of what I bought to try.

There was a thread a while back that was sort of like that:

connosr.com/wall/discussion/…

But I get the impression most people, even with the anonymity of the internet, don't want to disclose how many bottles they have.

Just recently picked up a few...Clynelish 14 yr, and the Balvenie 15 yr SB Sherry.

Why?

Both were available, and at very good pricing ($49, and $85 respectively), and they're also quality single malts.
