Another bottle of the Yamazakis SMWS 119.14 and working on getting another bottle of the Hakushu SMWS 120.7. Love these SMWS bottlings of Japanese malts.

@InGreatSpirits, Was lucky to find them at retail. Paid $100/bottle, which seems to be the going rate, which while not cheap, is certainly less than they go for on the secondary market. Looking forward to comparing, and more importantly, enjoying them.

Twin Valley Distillers Wheat Whiskey, 45% ABV. It's time for me to invest in drinking local. This is whiskey made from 100% unmalted whole wheat flour, using added commercial enzymes. There is no age statement on the bottle, but I think I recall that this is aged about 4 or 5 months, in new charred oak barrels of 10 gallon size or smaller. Connosr member C. Edgardo Zuniga, aka @TwinValley, is a one-man disilling operation in Rockville, Maryland, 5 miles from where I live. When I visited Edgardo at the distillery yesterday he told me that his wheat whiskey sells out quickly, and he had none in inventory at the distillery. I bought my bottle today from one of our 25 Montgomery County, Maryland, Department of Liquor Control Stores. Twin Valley Distillers is the only distillery in Montgomery County, Maryland, and the first distillery here since Prohibition ended in 1934. All his grains are sourced within Maryland.

I hit up a Binny's this week hoping to find some Caol Ila IBs, but I ended with nothing too special: just a Laphraoig 10 CS. It's one of my favorites and Binny's always has the best price on it ($60). They had both batch 5 and batch 6 on the shelf; I grabbed the 6 thinking it'd probably be different from the last bottle I had about nine months ago. Then I got it home and checked my notes—nope, batch 6 is what I had last time too. There are worse problems.
The others that tempted me there were the Laphroaig 18 and Longrow 10 1995, both at $75.
Then I hit up a more local place and ended up with a bottle of Old Grand Dad 114, based on its low low price of just $19 and the positive chatter about it here on Connosr. I tried a pour last night and it's fine. I'm really not a bourbon guy, but it is handy to have around.

I just got home with the latest kilkerran, "work in progress 7 - sherry wood". I bought it partly because its a campbeltowner with a good story behind it and partly because I tried it last week and found it very tasty.

A selection of the Flora & Fauna bottlings: Inchgower 14 Year Old, Benrinnes 15 Year Old, Mortlach 16 Year Old and Dailuaine 16 Year Old. Since this bottling series is gradually evaporating, I figured I should get some before they are all gone.

Pikesville 110 Proof 6 yo Straight Rye Whiskey (Heaven Hill), and a single barrel bottle of High West Double Rye at 52.6% ABV.
Wow! I've been wanting Pikesville Rye at barrel strength for years. Now Heaven Hill has decided to play ball with the big proof players. Pikesville was an old Baltimore Maryland brand which survived in Maryland until the 1970s before selling out to Heaven Hill. Pikesville Supreme 40% has a relatively small distribution area, mostly in Maryland, but I read that this new 55% version will be sold nationally. It's very good too. The nose actually reminds me a lot of WhistlePig. The label is very retro, and looks like 1915.
Hoped for next stop: Old Overholt Barrel Proof.
That Shawan Liquors single barrel # 961 of the High West Double Rye was a really terrific one, and sold at the lovely strength of 52.6%, up from their usual standard BATCH strength of 46%.

Picked up a bottle of High West Double Rye because I had their Rendezvous Rye and liked it.
A bottle of Angels Envy Rye finished in rum barrels because I never had a whisky finished rum barrels.
A bottle of WhistlePig 10 because Binnys had 15% of wine and spirits today, oh and if you can't tell also because I like rye whisky.

@coz Hiwest is doing some great things. A midwinter's night dram is their rendezvous finished in port barrels and I love it. Really looking forward to trying my bourye too. My biggest complaint about the AE rye is the cost. If they priced it on par with their bourbon I'd buy some.

@Victor You probably paid quite a bit less than I did for my Garrison Brother's Cowboy Bourbon, but my purchase was also based in part on getting some good Texas bourbon. I've opened one of my two bottles and it is the real deal. Dangerously smooth and tasty for being over 130 proof.

@newreverie, yes, it's true that of the hundreds of bottles of whisk(e)y which we own, we have spent in excess of $ 150 per bottle for only 8 of them, Signet x 2, Pappy 20, Pappy 15 x 2, Tun 1401, Supenova 2014 x 2. But it is also true that 80% of our stock was purchased more than 2 years ago, and prices have shifted a lot in the last 3 years alone. Quite a few bottles for which we paid lower prices in 2010-2102 are now quite expensive. If I could have only one do-over at this point, I would have picked up those 5 bottles of Rittenhouse 21 and 25 year old Rye I saw at one store in January 2012. $ 1,000 would have bought all five. Nowadays the secondary market prices are twice that for each bottle.
Nowadays if you badly want the old, rare, or specialty there is likely to be a substantial price tag attached to it. Would I consider paying $ 200 for a bottle of Garrison Brothers Bourbon? If I tasted it and decided it was the best bourbon I had ever had, I would certainly think seriously about it.

Technically I have not bought this, my wife has seen it and bought me for my Xmas present roll on the 25th December. :)

Balvenie 17 DoubleWood, and Corralejo Reposado Tequila.
Why? I've sampled the 17 DoubleWood twice and loved it both times. The last time I had some my generous host and I plied me with about 125 ml worth of it. 17 DoubleWood is not cheap, but this is a quality beverage, and it was on sale.
Why Corralejo Reposado? Corralejo Reposado is just a great quality reasonably priced and widespread Reposado. I've loved it for a long long time. This is my very first bottle of it. It was also on sale.

Glenfarclas 21. My sister and brother in law are coming to visit from Saskatoon and they are bringing this bottle back for me. $108 Canadian for a 21 year old whisky is a great deal in Ontario.

@Lars, I too have a pair of Glendronachs. They will be picked up this weekend on the way home from Forty Creek Whisky Weekend. Thank you @Nozinan, again, for finding something unavailable in Ontario that is right in my wheelhouse - Glendronach 17 YO Cask Strength1997.

The glendronach 15 revival seems to be temporarily unavailable. Both in Sweden and at masterofmalt.

Kilchoman Machir Bay cask strength European Tour Edition because it was very good, 'cheap' (€75,-) and it was only available that night so couldn't let it just stand there

@Victor Do you like Mezcal too? I could highly recommend the Nuestra Soledad La Compania Ejutla Joven. Very thick, smoky and meaty :)

@Alexsweden, Glendronach 15 is temporarily discontinued due to a lack of mature spirits. They expect it will return in 2018.
