@Pete1969, at that price I'd be taking a taste immediately, and considering going back for more. Seriously, if it's a great batch, it's worth having 3 of them on hand at that price.
It has been 4 years since I've seen a price near that for A'bunadh here.

@Victor if I had not just bought the wife a new phone I would have just picked up 2 or 3 but short of whisky tokens until next pay day. There seems to be decent offers doing the rounds in UK supermarkets at the minute and will just bide my time too catch the next one.

Took Victors advice and went back with the wife, so no need to sneak things into house, she agreed to buy me 2 more bottles for Xmas so I picked up another A'bunadh 51 and a Glenfarclas 15. So another one ticked off the wish list, now to point my mum in right direction for another bottle for Xmas.

I got my annual raise this past week, so tonight I made my annual small splurge trip to the one local shop that carries really interesting bottles. I walked out with the Kilkerran 2015 WIP Bourbon Barrel CS and a Springbank 12 CS. I was totally stoked and surprised to find that the Springbank was the 54.3% batch #9 that I'd had an eye out for since a year or so ago--since Serge scored with with all sorts of gravelly and garagey quotes. Score!

Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015, because of the positive comments and reviews from Connosr reviewers in whom I have confidence.
William Larue Weller 2015, 67.3% ABV, because it is always a great opportunity to be able to buy a bottle of WLW. Turns out that this year I was one of the persons to be able to buy one of the 215 bottles for at least 1347 entrants= 15.4% successful entrants, or 1 in 6.5 lottery applicants, in Montgomery County Maryland to be able to buy a Buffalo Trace Antique Collection bottle. William Larue Weller was even my first choice.
Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon, 9 years old, 60% ABV. When I told my sister that standard Knob Creek Bourbon had lost its 9 year age statement and had become NAS "extra aged", that we still had some KCSBR 60% with the 9 year age statement in our county, and that it was on sale at a great price, she told me to go out and buy her 3 bottles. I did so.

Longrow 14yrs Burgundy Wood because the color is awesomely dark, I love cask strength and it was only €60,- Also I'm curious what 3 years in a fresh wine cask does to the Longrow spirit

@Victor Would love to try that Weller... You don't see those bottles over here :(

@Victor I hope the LCBO gets an allotment this year...I think I prefer the Stagg in general (that 2010 you let me try was outstanding). we can only hope.

@PeatyZealot, hopefully you and I will drink some William Larue Weller together one day. And quite a few other whiskeys. I like Jim Murray's description of WLW: " a three-course meal of a bourbon." Thick, dense, intense.
@Nozinan, I am certainly also gunning for some George T. Stagg this year if I can get some. Probably the LCBO will again get some BTAC whiskeys, but, as we know, the LCBO or any other large participant lottery having some is no sure thing for the individual wanting some to be able to obtain it.

I just picked up a bottle of high west rendezvous rye. Why? It's been on my wish list for some time, has good reviews and my liquor guy discounted the price.

@PMessinger
Lovely drink this one and one of the more reasonably price Octomores.

I find the Longrow Burgundy needs time to breathe, almost like a pinot noir from Burgundy.

Glenlivet 16 Nadurra because down to last third of my open bottle, this could be on a number of discussions as it only cost £39 so bit of a steal and yes I have snuck it in while wife is out. Moved some stock around and hoping she does not realise when she sees the shelf.

Been on a bourbon kick for a while, and for some time I've been wanting to try the Weller 'wheated bourbons' from the Buffalo Trace distillery.
Finally located a online retailer that had both the Weller Special Reserve, and the Antique 107.
The Special Reserve is nice, but the Antique 107 ranks up there with the Maker's 46, and Maker's Cask Strength.

@Victor – Congrats on the William Larue Weller score. It sounds like you were up against long odds for a bottle. Well done! I know you love the WLWeller. Last year the Weller was is short supply. It sounds like this year there was much more to go around. Sadly, the GTS ended up short supply. So getting a hand on a bottle will be more difficult than ever. I hope I manage to secure a bottle. Last year I was lucky enough to nab 3 of BATC (THH, GTS, and Saz18). This year, I just hope to get my hands on one.
Sad to hear that the Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve is already dropping the 9 year old label. I trust you picked up a few for yourself?
I certainly hope you enjoy that Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015. I am sipping some right now. It is surprisingly good.

@ Victory I took a big chance and bought Lock, Stock & Barrel Rye Whiskey. The reviews are good and after all it's a 13 year old rye. When will I come across a 13 year old straight Canadian Rye. My liquor store buddy gave me a great deal.

Thx, I'm not sure when it will be opened, too many ahead of it. I couldn't pass on something this rare.

i meant to include my Canadian friends on the Lock, Stock & Barrel Rye purchase. Thx for all the support. I'm still pulling the trigger on Canadian whiskey purchases.

@Nock, I didn't buy any Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve on my latest shopping trip. The standard Knob Creek 50% Bourbon is already NAS here. I assume the Single Barrel 60% version will follow soon. I figured I can always drink from my sister's collection when I have a hankering to try it again. She might give one or two of those three bottles away, but even one will last for years in that open collection of hers. She's still accumulating the whisk(e)y, but she seems mostly to be drinking the gins.
Also, I was reluctant to buy any KCSBR this time around for a very @Nock-like reason: I hate the current bottle labels. The original KCSBR bottle labels were beautiful, in my opinion. Then they changed them and made them cheesey and cheap looking. I still might pick up a bottle or two before they go off sale in 3 weeks.
As for the Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015, I look forward to it and expect it to be very enjoyable. So now I am sitting on unopened bottles of Laphroaig Cairdeas from 2011, 2012, and 2015.
William Larue Weller sits alone as the only Buffalo Trace Antique Collection whiskey with zero rye content. That, and no one else currently makes a wheated bourbon as flavour "thick" as is William Larue Weller. The only other wheated bourbon I'd put in the same category of intensity is the Parkers Heritage 10 yo Wheated Bourbons, but those PHC wheaters are next to impossible to find any more.

I just bought the following three bottles: Red and White, Teachers, and Bowmore Legend. I create my own vattings from these and another rare single malt cask strength Benriach that I don't happen to like which tastes a lot like a high quality bourbon owing to the fact that it was aged a bit too long in a bourbon cask.
I make two vattings from these bottles: One peaty and one sweety for my friends and then take them with me to their houses. It's fun to be the hero of a dinner party. Plus, I enjoy coaxing my bourbon loving friends into the realization that, at least on the whole, single malt scotch is the superior poison.

Another bottle of Amador Double Barrel bourbon. Had a bottle a few weeks back and really liked it. With so many fighting over limited allocation stuff, there are great alternatives for much less laying there to be had. I hope nobody buys it on my recommendation though. I have the palate of an 8 year old. If someone who knows their whiskey tries it, I hope they post comments.

Well, my wife just totally surprised me. She somehow managed to score a bottle of this year's George T. Stagg 138.2 Proof (69.1% ABV) behind my back!!! And she just gave it to me for my birthday today. What an amazing lady! The story she tells is that she put in an order at a local Virginia ABC store for two bottles of GTS and two bottles of William Larue Weller in November of 2013. (Virginia is no longer taking orders by the way). Well, out of the blue she received a call THIS MONDAY asking if she still wanted a bottle of GTS. She raced to the store to pick it up. The kids were so excited for their step-dad and they nearly spilled the beans several times this week. They know how much I enjoy my George T. Stagg. My step-son wants me to wait to open it until he turns 21 (only 7 years away).
At the moment I am still in shock. The word from Buffalo trace is that there is far less GTS to go around this year. So I am ecstatic that my wife was able to procure me a bottle. It is always my favorite of the BTAC. Now . . . if only that order for WLW comes in as well . . .

@Nock Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
As much as I'm envious of your Stagg, realizing that if you hadn't got it I wouldn't anyway, I'm very happy for you!

@Nock, your birthday? I didn't remember that date. Happy birthday! No wonder you couldn't join @Dramlette, @Plattvillepeat, his wife and me at the A. Smith Bowman distillery today.
Congrats on successfully hunting the Stagg, and that by proxy. Such an excellent wifely thing to do. I'm still hoping for some of the 2015 release Stagg to come my way this season.

Stopped at the grocery store this morning on my way home from work...One last bottle of Buffalo Trace 1.75L sitting on the shelf.
I figured it needed a good home, and for only $40 - why not?

I just bought a bottle of Macallan 18 Sherry (1995) yesterday as I've been hearing that it's near the top of the line when it comes to needing a good sherry fix that doesn't make one feel too guilty in breaking the bank. I'm about done with my Glengoyne 21 (old version), and I've enjoyed that one so far. However, when I picked out my bottle, I also saw a Macallan 12 Gran Reserva looking back at me with those puppy dog eyes, and I'm wondering if I should get this one too ... choices, choices, choices. I've got two bottles of Revival (2011) waiting for me at the store as I've yet to try this one. I'll crack one open, and then leave the other for later. I've also been looking at the Glendronach single casks ... I've got a bottle of 1995 17 year PX puncheon, and I'm looking to buy an olosoro butt so that I can make a comparison and perhaps do my first review here. I'm hearing that 1992/1993 is a really good year, a sort of getting the most bang-for-your-buck kind of thing versus the 1971/1972 versions. The sales guy at the store kept pushing the JW Green Label, so perhaps I'll take a look at that too.

From this month's Society release:

A Glen Moray SMWS 35.134, another Suntory Hakushu SMWS 120.7 and a Nikka Coffey Malt SMWS G12.1.
Excellent tasting releases when I had the opportunity to sample them recently.

@Nozinan, @paddockjudge, and @Victor thank you for the Birthday wishes! I appreciate it.
And the lovely lady did it again! On Monday she got a call about a bottle of William Larue Weller. Just astounding!
But today was the true hat trick. Finally, my guy came through for me! He was able to get me a bottle of this year's Sazerac 18yo, Thomas H. Handy, AND Old Forester 12yo Birthday Bourbon. So really I am beyond ecstatic. I have NEVER been able to pick up this many of the BTAC before. And given the recent surge in demand for high end bourbon I am shocked to get my hands on these for the list price. While it isn't always enjoyable to live in Virginia for a "whisky" lover (the selection is horrible) there are occasional perks. This feels like it. An antiquated system of distribution with price control. Thank goodness I put my orders in several years ago while they were still taking them.

Another bottle of the Amrut Single Cask Virgin Oak Cask no. 883, exclusively bottled for Carwyn Cellars, Australia. Certainly impressed by it and the price is reasonable plus I get a discount.

Hakushu Distiller's reserve, Hibiki 12, Nikka Taketsuru 17. Reasons are: I really like Japanese whisky and the prices were ok. Hakushu €39,-, Hibiki 12 (50cl) was €50,- and the Taketsuru 17 for €99,-. Not bad in these days huh :)
