and.....?

@thecyclingyogi

@Nozinan it's like a lot of modern islay, it's all sweet and peat. personally, i struggle with things like "balance" and "coplexity" when flavours are so in your face. much to love, however. very tasty!

Did you try the Ashok manoeuvre? A little warmth and it explodes with flavour, and beneath the warm peat and chocolate there are tropical fruits, a little banana, pineapple, and more...

@thecyclingyogi

@Nozinan i've tried the "jarred manoeuvre" - i've always been keen on hand warming and cupping. i certainly am looking forward to exploring the bottle. happy with my purchase, but my life hasn't changed....

I just got a bottle of Tamdhu 10 y/o Sherry Cask since I heard they just re-opened in 2013 commercially. (Plus: unique bottle design)

Balvenie 15yo 'Sherry cask' Single Barrel (the new SB 2015) - partly because I read a review on cask #12093 that was very favorable, but mainly because the wine merchant had undervalued it by about 15% ... :-D

KGBO discounted the price of Amrut Peated CS to a "reasonable" price, 30% off, so I picked up a couple. I will bring one to a gatherering tomorrow.

@mct , if you like that Tamdhu, keep an eye open for some indies. I see a lot of young (~8 years old, but STATED) fully sherried, cask strengthers kicking around. We had one in my whisky club and it was exactly what you'd want it to be.

bowmore devil's cask batch 3. decided i needed more peat in my cabinet just in case winter ever shows up. the price at the lcbo, compared to other markets, seemed more than fair. sad to see the age statement dropped, however....

Angel's Envy Finished Rye - found there to be slim pickings in Cleveland for liquor selection and this was the best bottle the one place had. Happy w the purchase though as I was a big fan of the Angel's Envy Port Finish & Rum Howler also gave a favorable review of this bottle

CL7 'Elements of Islay' (58,5%, 1995-2014 Caol Ila) - 'cause it has more kick than any mature Coal Ila OB

Bunnahabhain 25yo - SV for The Nectar (46,2%, 1989-2015) - idem, more interesting than the 25yo OB, smokier & better value

old (2005) bottle of springbank 21. only ever had one dram of this stuff and i absolutely loved it. was the last bottle in a shop selling it for the exact same price as the modern springbank 21. absolute steal, in my opinion....

Bought and opened a bottle of blade and bow. Sipping on it along with some old rip van winkle 10yr. Happy with both.

Having enjoyed the normal Blade and Bow and so far being unsuccessful with BTAC I decided to pick up a bottle of Blade and Bow 22 year. Supposedly it is a blend of Bernheim and Buffalo Trace stocks.

Stagg Jr. Batch 5 I bought it because I have really been enjoying C.E.H.Taylor Barrel Proof and was thinking of the family resemblance. Despite having the same mash bill, the Stagg Jr. might take some time before I can "get with it." It is dry, and almost austere, for a bourbon.

I just bought a bottle of Te Bheag Na Eilean this afternoon - I remembered friends from this site praising this and the price is certainly right. I will probably break this out for a gathering tomorrow evening.

As purchases were kept to a minimum this year and with a return and gift certificate in-hand, decided to splurge on the G&M Caol Ila Cask Strength and the Glen Dronack Cask Strength. Rounding it out was the 25 Year Old El Dorado that I enjoy every holiday season.

@Nozinan That reads like a plan. Friend was generous to grab me a bottle of the Crown Royal Northern Harvest - that will be cracked open sometime during the season

Nothing special but 3 I like:

-Glenlivet Nadurra 16YO 55.7% because there were only 3 left in my area, it is discontinued and I enjoy this one.

-Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 52 60.5% ABVbecause I liked batch 49 a lot and I am told that this one is very similar. exquisite mouthfeel and nose IMHO.

-Nikka WFTB because Victor's review reminded me of my last finished bottle and it is quite hard to come by in my part of Manitoba. Only half left after I drammed the first part over Christmas soley for medicinal purposes. But remember it is only in 500ml bottles.

Hope everyone else enjoyed their holiday dram as much.
