Finally had a chance to explore some of Calgary's finest liquor emporia....
Came away with a Amrut cask strength (batch 15 I believe) because it was $80 and not even available in Ontario. I really like this expression but don't want to open one of the limited edition 2007 bottles I have.
At a very poorly stocked safeway liquor I noticed a Compass Box Peat Monster for $50. Also unavailable in Ontario. I mentioned it out loud, and it turns out there was another Torontonian that heard me and picked one up and bought it. So I scored the last one.
Still have one more item on my to do list... hoping to score a bottle that will qualify as a steal of a deal...but the store was closed tonight...

Amrut single malt 46% batch 53 March 2013 50cc minis x4.
One final Liquor store run was made possible because our flight was delayed an hour and a half. I found these little gems. I like minis because you don't have to spring for the whole bottle. Given I have the CS I probably wouldn't want a whole bottle but given a chance to try their entry level which is craft presented, possibly doing a H2H with the CS.... had to take the plunge.
Why 4? One for my brother -in-law, so we can do a face-time session in the future, and 1-2 extra to gift away in Ontario.

Mackmyra Svensk Rök, because it's all Swedish (even the oak) malt with an original smoke recipe. St Georges Chapter 11, I tasted it and wanted more for at home; I heard I was lucky to stumble upon it. Glenfarclas 21, €70,- for a 21yo was normal 5 years ago, now it feels like a steal. Nikka Blended Whisky, because it's cheap and good:)

@Nozinan a Big delay at the airport is not necessarily a bad thing :)

@PeatyZealot
it is when you're with two young kids (and a wife).
Ended up being a 3-4 hour delay and we got home after 2 am with work starting 7 am...

@peatyZealot, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the Mackmyra. I've been eyeing it on the shelves for some time but haven't pulled the trigger yet

Hey guys, I am still alive!
Last purchase was a bottle of Bunnahabhain 12YO. I haven't had that one yet, but everything I've tried from Bunna has been high quality stuff so far.

First post on Connosr..hi!
Glendronach 21 Parliement, for our whisky club...was a bit underwhelming, in QC price is high too 195$ very short finish. Prefer the 15 and it's more challenging flavour profile
Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015..picked up because it's getting lots of raves and it's only 15$ more than 10yrs old have not opened it yet

Welcome to Connosr! The Cairdeas 2015 is a very nice whisky. After a three months open, my bottle is a stunner. The light fruit notes are now amplified and create a wonderful balance with the peat and smoke.

@paddockjudge thanks I've lurked for a while figured it was time to join.
I'm glad to hear another good profile description ofthe Cairdeas 2015...it now makes me want to buy another bottle to keep for those days when the chips are down...my budget's a little tight though. I'm hoping in another month there will still be a bottle in my neck of the woods.

A few more bottles of the Laphroaig 18 Year Old (current bottling) to supplement the personal stash of older bottlings.

I hear these are earmarked for discontinuation. That and they were well priced.

I've been a busy bee since Christmas. I decided to go to 4 different Binny's(Chicago area) because I could see some bottles showing up in the on-line inventory but were not at my local Binny's. First I found Benromach Peat Smoke $69, and just yesterday Kilchoman 2008 Vintage for 89.99. In the middle of those two trips I found Talisker 18 at Costco for $136. Had to beg the wife for that last one. She only let me keep the Kilchoman (saving the other two for presents. I can only hope for Valentines day. The reasons for purchasing is just that I've been looking for these particular bottles based on the myriad of blogs and discussions I've read here and abroad. I had been seeing that Talisker 18 for upwards of $200 and had thought I'd never get a chance at that bottle due to the price. Lucky me.

@cricklewood Welcome - thanks for your thoughts on the GD21 - partial to GD in general so good to know to try before buy on that one

@JayRain GD21 is good whisky but a bit one dimensional vs GD15. I tasted the GD8 recently and enjoyed that greatly

Bruichladdich Black Arts bought at my local whisky shop after a long search. (:

@cricklewood I find the 12 is a great everday dram. Have the Allardice and Cask Strength to enjoy at some point,

Virginia Gentleman Bourbon. When I heard that A. Smith Bowman, under the direction of parent Sazerac Company, is "de-emphasising", maybe discontinuing this old Virginia Classic, I decided I needed to buy my second bottle of it in the last 8 years. Plastic 750 ml bottle with a screw cap right off of the bottom shelf...straight bourbon NAS, so 4 years old, 40% abv, and $ 10.30 including the tax. Taste? Not high art, but every bit as good or better than most of the new micro-distillery bourbons being sold for $ 50 and up. American bourbon drinkers wake up! The best of the bottom shelf is currently in the process of either disappearing or doubling in price. And the best of the bottom shelf is not half bad.

A couple of single cask Glendronach's , I've always wanted to get 1 of these but they are a little bit expensive . When I saw them with a slight discount I pounced because ,year on year, they're not getting any cheaper!

@PMessinger, I hope that you like your Bruichladdich Black Art. It carries a hefty price tag, but that one is quite a trip. It carries quite an astounding degree of complexity, sometimes wild complexity.

Good move. I was able to get a 17 YO single cask for $83 earlier in 2015. When we shopped around the same cask was $120 as were similar ones. I only got one bottle but I tasted from another and wish I had bought 6.

@Nozinan that's a great price you paid for your 17 year old. I had a 19 year old at £96 and a 12 year old at £59. I should have bought them last year really as each batch seems to be going up by 20% in price annually! That being said if these bottles are as good as their reviews then it's still a decent price . I rarely buy any bottles which cost more than £60 but I like to spoil myself occasionally.

Just got myself another bottle of Glenmorangies A Midwinter's Night Dram. It's a UK exclusive at 43%abv and has been getting some good feedback on Whiskybase. Still on offer at £28.as well!

@Victor you are right in my area it ran $ 359.99, and I don't want to be misunderstood about my economic level in life, that was hefty. I am not rolling in Bill Gates kind of money but it, to me was worth it. I have had a long search for any of the Black Art expressions I could get my hands on and when one came in to my local shop I had to jump at it. (:

@PMessinger, I am guessing that Black Art was such an object of your lust because you are such an Octomore afficionado, n'est-ce pas? I split a bottle with @Nock, and was also gifted a large sample from @CognacFan. Bruichladdich Black Art wrote the book on murky complexity.

The new Cadenhead (Small Batch) Highland Park 1990/2015 release - because HP indie releases are few and far between (this one is about 400 bottles) and, well... Cadenhead + 25 year old HP + £90 = a true no brainer

@maltmate302 Really, is that decent? I sort of dismussed it because, well, it's cheap Glenmo' :- )
Perhaps I have to get me one.

@Jules actually it's really very good. .It displays completely different characteristics than the normal 10 year old with the 50% Sherry casks kicking in and at 43%abv its worth trying . It's also been given an 85% on whiskybase which is high on that forum!
