Recent not-so-recent acquisitions, all because I had whisky money from Christmas and whatnot.
•Glenlivet Nadurra 16. Because it's discontinued. Because it's broadly appealing and I can bust it out one day in the future for people who might be excited to taste it.
•Big Peat Christmas 2014. Because of Fiberfar's review. Because I can stash this away until next Christmas. Because ME NEEDS PEAT PEAT PEAT.
•Kilkerran WIP 2015 Bourbon-Cask Cask Strength. Because it's great. Because I wanted one more for the stash to open up one day along with the WIP #1 that I stashed last year.
•Longrow Gaja Barolo. Because Longrow.
•Caol Ila 7 YO IB cask strength, single cask. Because you can't go wrong with Caol Ila indies. Because it was on sale at Binny's.
•Bunnahabhain 11 YO IB cask strength, single cask, first-fill sherry butt. Because I like a little more edge to my sherried whisky than you get with, say, A'bunadh. Because it was on sale at Binny's. Because I wanted another Islay to vat into my all-Islay solera bottle.
•Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015. Because it rules. Because I wanted a second bottle for the stash.
•Benromach Traditional. Because I tasted it at a Binny's a while back and found it pretty good for a cheapo. Because I wanted a sparring partner to open with the Benromach 10/100, whenever I open that.
•Glenmorangie 10 + two minis of random finishes gift pack box thing. Because it was on clearance for $29.

Went to the Flagship store of LCBO showing 18 bottles of Blanton's GOLD edition. Came up EMPTY! Available yesterday and people were lined up for it!
But one of the gentlemen working there looked and saw another store nearby showing 7. I called...got the last 4 bottles.
2 for me, to replace the 3 FC Harmony I returned recently. 2 for a friend...
Apparently, the reason the release is "delayed" is that the analysis showed discrepancies with the posted alcohol content. Not sure why that means they couldn't release it all at once.

@Nozinan Congrats - does this mean that more is on the way? Website only shows the Summerhill stash

@JayRain
Not exactly sure. The guy figured each store was going to get it at a different time. Apparently it already came and went at Queen's Quay.
Not sure what he was talking about relabeling because the ABV on the bottle is the same as was always on the website. Anyway if you see it in the north of the city and you want me to grab some for you just sent me a private message.

@sengjc Very nice indeed. Not available here but wondered if you have tried the Benriach 18 Dunder. There are a few left and wondering if I should loosen the purse strings. Benriach seems to bring oiut quality whiskies

Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015, 200th Anniversary, 51.5% ABV, 2 more bottles. I haven't tasted my first bottle of this one yet, but acclaim seems to be universal for it, and in the end I chose not to resist the $ 68.18 total per bottle price. The local stock is just about gone now.

1958 glen grant, bottled in 2007 for LMDW by Gordon & MacPhail at 50% abv. fancy decanter, she's a beuaty. at a price i could afford, it's the oldest whisky i reckon i will ever own, i just couldn't help myself....

@thecyclingyogi a 1958 Glen Grant bottled for LMDW by G&M at 50%abv sounds absolutely incredible. You never normally see whisky from that era at 50%. Congratulations on your purchase from a deeply envious Welshman!

Hi everyone,
New on this board. Didn't notice an introduction section so I guess I'll start a separate post.
Picked up a few bottles over the holidays and to start the new year. Most purchases have been with my brother recently as he has also been getting into scotch. A fun, brotherly adventure...
Highland Park Odin: One of my favorite distilleries. Always have a bottle of HP 18 on hand. Bought his as my brother liked the packaging and we received a few gift cards over the holidays.
Highland Park 21: always enjoyed the 18 and needed to see what 3 additional years could do...
Glenfarclas 21: Seemed reasonably priced in Ontario, relative to other 21 year old scotches. Been leaning towards more sherry based scotches so picked this up to try...
Balvenie Tun 1509: Balvenie is another of my favorite distilleries and I am a sucker for limited edition/production items.
Balvenie 21 Port Wood: my new cousin in law came over the summer and proceeded to put a significant dent in my current Port Wood 21. Needed to restock..
Balvenie 12 year single barrel: never had it before but liked everyone Balvenie so far. Looking forward to trying it
Balvenie 12 year Double Wood: always have a bottle of this on hand. Love the taste. An easy sipper
Balvenie 17 year Double Wood: wanted to try its older brother. Looking forward to cracking this open soon
Nikka from the barrel: really enjoyed a sample of this and had the opportunity to purchase a few. Well priced and very enjoyable
Nikka 21: a great friend picked me up a bottle in the summer and finally cracked it open. Beautiful stuff. Had the opportunity to purchase one recently and decided to age to my stock due to rumours of discontinuation and the movement towards NAS
Glengoyne 21: a number of veteran whisky lovers that I respect have recommended this to me and say that this is a very good alternative to Macallan. Looking forward to trying this...
Balvenie 12 single barrel: a restock. Always like to compare the annual release of the single barrel in Ontario.
Glendronach 18 year old tawny port: looking for a compliment to the Balvenie Port Wood 21. Haven't cracked it yet.
Laphroaig Cairdeas: moving slightly away from the heavily peated stuff however, seeing it is Laphroaig's 200th anniversary, the attraction to limited edition was strong with this one...LOL
Hibiki Harmony: missed out on picking up the 12 so picked this up in Montreal to try...will crack this open once the Nikka Coffey Grain is finished
Looking forward to contributing/reading on this forum

Welcome to the site. If you're half a s good a drinker as your father was...
Wait a minute, that was Top Gun, and it was flying, not drinking.
Anyway welcome to the site. I sense great things to come, since we both live in Toronto and you just bought a lot of Scotch... ;)

Johnnie Walker Blue Label the Casks Edition.

It was cheaper than duty free.

@sengjc Blue at Cask Strength? Now there is something I would consider. Certainly the regular 43% version is not worth the money, but this sounds interesting...

E.H. Taylor Small Batch and Old Weller 107. Couldn't pass them up since they tend to the leave the selves so fast around here. Got both for $72, thus I forgot about the scotch I came in for.

@maverickdrinker Balvenie 21 Portwood is an absolutely delicious scotch,,,quite the holiday haul, do you dabble in bourbon's and rye's as well? Welcome!

@Nozinan Thanks for the offer - was able to snag the last bottle at Bay and King this morning (they are closed on Saturday's and Sunday. Have to admit that the gold sheen is more impressive than the horses on green and regular bottles. Look forward to its taste in the near future

On Saturday I worked like a dog from 655 AM to after midnight. I felt I deserved something but there is little at the LCBO I want.
Tonight I was on call again and had to make 2 visits. After the first one I figured I had earned enough to pay for a bottle of Bowmore Tempest to keep my spare company. I struggled with this...I have too much but I don't have a lot of Tempest ant it is really unique.
SO like in who wants to be a millionaire (or in this case...who wants to have a million bottles of scotch?), I phoned a friend, hoping to be persuaded to just go home.
With 1/2 an hour before closing as I arrived at the store, he had convinced me to buy a bottle (there were 4 at this location) and just then, I got another page. Another visit to make. So I bought 2 and went on my way...

A trio of good value buys at the moment - where I'm at, that is.
images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02/…
Eminently good drinking malts at a good price - that's more than enough reason.

@Nozinan I love how your friend just straight up started convincing you. It's the wise decision, I'm going to do the same sometime this month. Just pulled the trigger on another Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015 my brother is bringing it down from Quebec city next week. It was the only place that had a bottle left. I had no choice, I didn't want to kick myself after opening that first bottle sometime down the line.
Also bought a Glenlivet 15 I felt like I never really tasted that one properly, plus one needs something to balance all that peat.

I just returned from a lovely, extended weekend in northern Ontario. Several friends and I attended three Junior A level hockey games in which one of the friend’s son played in. Aside from the first game in South River, played in -12* F temps, it was quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, time did not allow for more than one LCBO stop in Parry Sound, Ontario, and a quick stop at the Duty Free shop in Sarnia upon return trip to Michigan. But I happily purchased two bottles of Aberlour A’bunadh batch #53, and one each of Glenfiddich Distillery Edition 15yo, Talisker 57* North (1 litre bottle), and Tyrconnell 10yo Madeira finish irish. I was hoping to pick up some nicer Canadian whiskies but the Parry Sound LCBO was quite limited. Maybe I will have more opportunities to shop next hockey season as this season is drawing to a close.

Took a trip down to Texas for work and stopped in to Nasa Liquor to pick up their last bottle of Old Scout private barrel (finished off a bottle in the fall and loved it). Couldn't control myself and ended up buying one of their Knob Creek private barrel selections and a Westland Peat Week single cask as well.

@maverickdrinker A big Angel's Envy fan - one of the best that I have come across in that price range.

@JayRain Don't you find that Balvenie 21 PW too think for the price...? I find it quite underwhelming.

Today marks 1 month since my last ingestion of alcohol. It's Ironic that during that time I managed to accumulate more whisky than I usually drink in 2 years... A'Bunadh batch 3, Uigeadail, Booker's 2015-04 (the last 2 through my brother in law in Calgary), 4 Blanton's Gold edition (2 for me and 2 for a friend), 2 spare bottles of Bowmore Tempest 5. 7 bottles (for me), 5.1 litres of cask strength (or close to it) goodness.
Although I haven't planned when my first dram back will be, or what (though I'm thinking Confederation Oak (original release) in a mini-glencairn, just like the first time I tried it), I have noticed my interest hasn't let up over the past 31 days. I've even been monitoring bottle inventories closely at LCBO (that's how I landed the Blanton's).
That's why today I noticed that a single Bottle of Bowmore Devil's Cask became available at a store near where my last patient of the day lives. I called, and indeed it was a real (not phantom) bottle, returned by someone and completely intact.
I have missed out on a lot of good Bowmore (and I think buying a total of 4 Tempest 5 was overcompensation) because I have been so put off by the 12, 15 and 18 year old releases, which in my opinion have no redeeming value. When I tasted @tAlexander's DC batch 1 I was impressed, and when I saw an exchange of a batch 3 at a tasting I was envious.
Having tried 3 CS Bowmores now (Laimrig, Tempest, and DC) I recognize that this often maligned distillery has the potential to put out some decent stuff. So when I saw it listed I sprang to action.
I was able to get them to put a hold on it for me. I quickly contacted some of the whisky minds I trust most (not all, just some, so the rest of you don't feel insulted), who solidified my decision to pull the trigger. I arrived just before 5 pm (my deadline), carefully inspected the bottle and the seal, and brought it home.
