@altimanmalt QC Was on sale in Calgary for under $50 a while back. I don't drink it too often (I have so many open bottles I can't drink anything often) but I consider it a solid performer. Most recent bottle was a litre DF gift from a sister in law, and I have enough left to last a while. I missed the last sale in Alberta but it comes back my brother in law will get a couple for me, and the savings will more than justify the checked luggage.

@Nozinan Yes the sale was under $50 as a matter of fact it was $35.98 plus 5%GST ($37.78 out the door) at Real Canadian Liquor and also had a 50 ml bottle attached. Got 4 bottles!

@maltmate302 just got myself 2 bottles of the QC at £25/bottle wife not happy but could not resist at that price.
8 years ago 0
@Pete1969 you've got to get it at that price, you'd otherwise be kicking yourself when it goes back up to 36 pounds. I've never had any regrets over bottles I've bought but I've regretted not buying several expressions!

@Pete1969 That s some great price !
lol , a chance I m single , wifee should be unhappy most of the time with spending she wouldn t like !

@maltmate302 I know it has put me in bad books again, just hope she relaxes a bit before going through Manchester in July got my eye on a few bottles. Travelling with a friend who will let me use his allowance thinking of getting the Bruichladdich Port Charlotte CC01, the Laphroiag PX or Brodir then a Glenlivet 21 or 25 if they have it. Will try to get her shopping for sunglasses while buying them though or she will not speak to me for the week away or maybe I should let her see the bill. Lol

@altimanmalt Regarding that QC as a "first scotch"--every year at Christmas, my volunteer fire hall buys every member a bottle of their choice (within reason, of course...). Last Christmas, one of the younger guys who's just getting into it asked for a bottle of "peaty scotch," so I was asked for a recommendation, and (as Benromach Peat Smoke is unavailable locally, and comparatively expensive, too) I suggested QC. I'd never tried it, but the reviews (including Ralfy were positive. We also picked up a bottle of Benriach 10 for one of the other guys.
The Benriach was forgettable IMO, but I went right out and bought a bottle of QC for myself. Not quite up to the Benromach standard, but damn good for the $$$ and locally available (I did buy a bottle of the Benromach during a recent trip to the city--I now have that as well as a private cask strength Benromach in the cellar...).

Another bottle of the 1974 Caledonian 40 Year Old by Duncan Taylor for their Rare Auld series - bottle no. 88 of 213 this time.
uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160408/…
What can I say? '88' is a good number and numerology is quite important in my cultural heritage.
Also a couple of Society bottlings from the latest Outturn: - SMWS 10.85, a 17 year old Bunnahabhain from a 2nd fill sherry cask. - SMWS 30.87, a 14 year old Glenrothes from a refill port pipe.

Have these 4 waiting for me in Nova Scotia, the Glencadam is $200 less in NS than at the LCBO and the OP17 $50 less than the LCBO when available. The Amrut and Bowmore are just hard to find in Ontario.
8 years ago 0
@Astroke Much more practical packaging for the Amrut than it used to come in. Probably better for transportation too.
I haven't shopped much for whisky in NS, last time being 2011, but I do recall it being a great experience.

Redbreast 12 YO Cask Strength. Why? I like cask strength. I like my unpeated whiskies mature. And at $110 Canadian it's a reasonable price for the LCBO for something with an age statement nowadays..
I have a few Irish whiskies I can try now and I'll be looking forward to trying this one.

@Nozinan I too will be purchasing one of these tomorrow for the same reasons. I will also be picking up a Stranahans, why... have heard good things in general and it appears to be a nice change of pace. Also the LCBO has this priced very much in line with the US pricing and in most cases lower.

Nozinan: if you happen to stray over into Michigan, you will happen to find one of the best domestic U.S. prices for Redbreast 12 YO Cask Strength. Priced the same as the regular Redbreast 12 yo expression at US$64.95 I realize you still lose on the currency conversion but worth considering should you find yourself in "the Great Lakes" state. As one of my whiskey favorites, I try to put away a bottle or three as time and space allow.

@cherylnifer
It is quite nice, but the cost of going to Michigan would negate the savings. My bottle will last for a long time.

2 Bottles of Booker's 2015-4 "Oven Buster" (Best regular release of Booker's i've ever had)
2 bottles of Gooderham & Worts Naturally Small Batch Lot 4 (YES I FOUND 2 MORE BOTTLES WOOOOO!)
8 years ago 1Who liked this?
@newreverie Where? I've heard oi Gooderham & Worts (the current version), but I've certainly never seen it. And the Bookers--I've enjoyed a couple of bottles, didn't realize it had dated releases.

Just picked up a GlenDronach batch 4 CS because I really liked the revival and the 12 YO but waited too long to buy more 15 YO Revival.There is no more more in Manitoba, but I knew that would happen sooner than later.Hope the CS is a suitable sibling to the 15 YO.
8 years ago 0
@Jonesz I bought a bottle of CS batch 4 when it came available, for the same reason--I really like the Revival 15. The CS4 is a bit muddier, less "bright," but it's a fine dram. I bought a second bottle before it disappeared...

@Spitfire I live in Houston. Gooderham & Worts Naturally Small Batch has not been available for at least 4 years and perhaps longer. Very little information is available on it, but I believe it was released around the same time as the 2012 Pipe Creek and Lot 40 bottles. As for Booker's, all batches are in fact dated. There is variation in age, proof, and where the barrels were chosen from batch to batch. I think all batches of Booker's are of high quality, but there are definite flavor variations. The 2015-4 and 2015-1 batches are outstanding, with the 2015-4 being the best of the year and the best i've had in several years.

@newreverie
Booker's is inseed released in batches, but some are not "dated". I have some bottles with dates (2015-01, 2015-04, 2013-6) but also one without C04-J-19, which was also fantastic.

@newreverie Thanks for the info. All I know is that I've enjoyed the Booker's I've tried (and also Baker's, but I think my nod goes to Booker's).

@Spitfire Thanx for this. I see you agree with the 127 reviewers of batch 4 on Whiskybase that averaged 87.5 in that it is a good dram. Mine is in the bunker and won't be opened for awhile but the anticipation is there.

Just picked up a 2014 bottle of the Laphroaig 25 year. Here in CT, it goes for between $450 and $500 but while visiting my parents, I was able to find a bottle for $300 and figured it was too good to pass up, especially with prices increasing.
