@Astroke sorry if I missed it but what did you trade for the 125th anniversary Ltd edition.
8 years ago 0
@Pete1969 I did not list them, but it was a Glendronach 15, Arran 18 and a Glencadam 21. I had 3 GD15's so that was not too painful. The Glencadam 21 was because I was looking forward to it. As retail pricing goes I paid dearly, but I wanted the FR's and I hope it is good as advertised.

@Astroke yikes indeed the GD15 is getting rare and Amazon UK has it but £150 a bottle. This is copy from company statement in July 2015.
The GlenDronach 15YO will indeed be discontinued from the range, for approx 3 years – the plan, at this stage, is that it will return at some point in 2018. This isn’t something we would do lightly, as this is one of our best-selling and most popular whiskies, but we simply don’t have the maturing stocks to continue to bottle and supply the GD 15YO over the next 3 years. The GD 15YO will be withdrawn from all markets, not just the UK. Based on current stocks and the average monthly rate of sale I would envisage there still being availability within UK retail through to Sep, maybe even Oct.
Hope you had some more hidden away for a rainy day and enjoy the Four Roses you have paid a hefty price.

@Astroke that's a very expensive piece of trading but I understand your reasoning behind it. Jim Rutledge regards 125th anniversary edition as the finest bourbon he has produced. There's no doubt that you've got some fantastic bourbon there.

@Pete1969 Yes I have 2 additional bottles stashed. The GD 15 is still available in a few provinces here for between $86 cad and $105.

@Astroke, You made a spectacular trade!
Last year I was involved in a trade for FR 125.
AP 25 & AP 30........FOR........Amrut Portonova & Four Roses 125th Anniv Limited Edition Small Batch Barrel Proof. Happy faces on both ends of the deal.
You can't put a price on a trade.

@paddockjudge I have no regrets, thrown in to me also was some large samples of WLW 2013, Talisker DE, Old Scout 7 year Bourbon and blend of Weller 12/107 that was really nice.

@Astroke if both parties are happy there is never an issue with a trade, especially when the bottles will be enjoyed rather than collected for monetary gains in the future.
Hope you enjoy the bourbon as much as I am enjoying the 2015 FR small batch limited edition. It has been open for a while now and comes out when good friends visit everyone has been blown away by the complexity and are astounded when they find out the proof as I only serve it neat, it is really easy too drink.Anyone wants to mix apart from a drop or two of water and they do not get offered any.

@Pete1969,
FR125 Small Batch is a beauty! I've had the good fortune to open three of these. The most recent was opened and finished at our 25th wedding anniversary celebration...it didn't stand a chance.
I'm always up for a trade for this one. Would you say one William Larue Weller 2015 for two FR 125 Small Batch is a fair trade?

@paddockjudge I only have the 2015 Ltd edition Rutledge's swan song, not the 125th anniversary.
I would probably be up to trade 2 of my bottles of 2015 FR's but logistically it will never happen with the distance and shipping regs.

A friend's son, visiting New York City, was asked by his father to seek out a bottle of Greenore 15yo at a specific liquor retailer. He located the bottle and upon check out was told there were two more available in storage. The son asked if I wanted a bottle also. I stated that I would take both bottles if he did not want one. The son did not. Upon receipt of the two bottles today, I discovered one bottle was 15yo while the other was 18yo. When I pointed this out to friend's son, he commented that the shop clerk noted the difference but offered to sell both at Greenore 15yo price since the 18yo was not appearing in either the shop inventory or pricing systems. I offered my friend first rights to the bottle of 18yo but he declined. He said it was my good fortune and that I should be the one to grasp it. So I did. A very good weekend indeed.

@Pete1969, the chances for an exchange of this type to occur are 'slim to FA', but fun to think about.
Please keep us up to date on your enjoyment of FR 2015 Ltd Ed.

While I was up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, this past weekend, I went to one of only a few liquor stores and found a bottle of 12yo Yamazaki for only 99.99 USD, 108 after taxes. I got it for three main reasons: First, I truly enjoy this whisky; and second, it isn't to come by. The last reason, the price was as if they didn't realize it this particular whisky is hard to get. As I was checking out, I asked the cashier to see if they had more in stock, but simply didn't shelve. I was happy to hear that they had a second bottle. I got that one as well.

This completes my knob creek batch hat trick.

Found a nugget of golf in Poland! The now discontinued Longrow 14. I'm really looking forward to sampling this one, the tax-mark is stamped 2010 so I Believe this is the highly regarded 2010 bottling (serge).

I've gotten a few different bottles during the summer, most of which I have not yet opened as I'm making my way through my opened bottles first. I'd like to get that number down to less than 20, ideally 10-15 or so.
Anyway, this is what I've acquired over the past while:
Stalk & Barrel Canadian I visited the distillery earlier this summer and tasted some of what they had on offer. I enjoyed this one and while it cost more than I think it's really worth, I decided I ought to support a local-ish small distiller.
Glen Breton 10 YO & Glen Breton 10 YO Ice Wine Cask These are both half-full and are from a trade with Nozinan. I've been curious about the standard release for a while, and when I learned he was looking to unload both of them I was quite happy to take them off his hands. Nozinan was going to just up and give 'em to me, but that didn't feel right. I gave him a nearly full bottle of Evan Williams Single Barrel in return.
Forty Creek Evolution Another Nozinan related acquisition. I'd never tried this and saw in some thread or other that he had more bottles than he needed, so I offered to buy one. While I was at his place picking up my haul he was kind enough to provide some Forty Creek samples (see the "What are you drinking" thread) and Evolution was one of them. Turns out I'm not a fan. Ooops. So for now I'm torn about keeping this one sealed and maybe passing it forward, or opening it and seeing how much of a difference some air will make over time.
Blanton's Original & Knob Creek Rye Both of these were gifts and I was glad to receive them as they were both on my wishlist. I quite enjoy Knob Creek Rye's sister whiskey (George Dickel Rye) so I'm looking forward to it. I hear Blanton's is one of the better rye forward bourbons out there, and rye is definitely my favourite whisky grain so I'm keen to try this one too.
Golden Wedding & Royal Reserve I have a bit of a soft spot for some bottom shelf Canadians, and these are two I've never tried. They were both on sale earlier this summer, so I figured I might as well grab 'em for later.
Gilead Crimson Rye Gilead distillery is actually only about an hour's drive from me, yet I've never been. For shame, I know. But when the LCBO decided to discontinue their two whiskies they put them on sale from $80 (or was it $70? I forget) down to $40 so I decided the time was right to grab this one. Their other expression (Wild Oak) was unfortunately not in stock near me. One of these days I'll pop on over to the distillery and maybe I'll grab a bottle then.

Ack. This is why I wish we could edit our posts... my last post is a bit of a formatting mess now. I had hit enter after each whisky name, but apparently you have to hit enter twice to get a new line. Should've gone with a colon as a separator I suppose... Anyway, if it doesn't make any sense when you read it, just enter a mental line break after each whisky name. :)

@Nelom I could not stand the Evolution when I first opened it, however it did get somewhat better after time. I also had picked up an additional bottle on clearance at an LCBO and in my bar it sits waiting for someone to take it off my hands. Maybe@JasonHambrey, I believe he scored it a 95/100

I just bought an Aberlour a'bunadh #54 because:
•I had some whisky money, and it was on sale for $80—about the best it ever retails for around here.
•I haven't had a sherry bomb in a few years and it feels like time to give the style another whirl.
•It's the right time of year to crack a sherry bomb and drink a couple of glasses before it improves through air exposure up until Christmastime.
•Victor gave this batch 94 points in his recent review.

@Astroke,
I'm open to a trade. The FC Evolution is not my favourite FC Special Release, but I do like it. Let's talk about it.

Hibiki 12 again last bottle on shelf at local supermarket got enough put away for a couple of years if I am careful with the pours.
Laphroaig Select because I like the 10 year, quarter cask and PX hoping this gives the best of all worlds with the triple wood in the blend instead of the quarter cask and no added colour, don't mind it has NAS as I have not had a bad Laphroaig yet and it only cost £25. Worst case it can go into hot toddy when I have a cold.

Booker's 2016-01E @63.85 % ABV because I really like the flavor, mouth feel and nose of Booker's Small batch. It is almost 64% and $64 Cdn plus tax here. $72.40 out the door. In Az where we winter this one is $65 US at Total Wine which equals approx $86 of my hard earned pension money. Anybody know what the E signifies at the end of the bottle code?

A friend of mine recently went for a family holiday to New Zealand and offered to bring something back in the Travel Retail range. Thanks to his kindness, I am now the owner of a Tullamore Dew Pheonix. I've been after this one ever since @Victor's review back in August 2014.
HIgh ABV Irish whiskey is not something I get to taste often.

Del Maguey Mezcal aged in BTAC WLW first fill barrels and then finished in first fill Van Winkle 10yr barrels. Harrison Governor's Reserve Barrel Proof The Harrison has been on my find list for a while and I couldn't pass up a chance to taste an already amazing mezcal elevated by wheated bourbon barrels.

I bought the A'Bunadh batch 54 because of Victor review although I still have two opened bottles of A'Bunadh. I guess I am not original with that one.
8 years ago 0
@newreverie That Del Maguey sounds fantastic let us know what you think of it, I am sure I am not the only one curious about it. I am also wondering if they have ever used some Islay cask to do a finish, I am convinced that could work.

@Robert99 I'm excited about it. I plan to have the first taste of it at the whiskey summit next month. @Benancio is a big tequila fan, so I plan to try it out with him.

I just got gifted the Aberlour A'bunadh 53 - Victor gave it a 88 so I'm quite happy with that. Yet to taste it though. Other than that the new Kilkerran 12. Lovely dram!
