@cherylnifer there has been no changes in any legislation yet and will not be for at least two years so strange the shipping has shot up unless they charge you in dollars and pay in pounds in Scotland, that being the only reasonable explanation.

The whole Brexit decision is causing a lot of turmoil with the SNP now wanting a second referendum on independence. If that happens I would imagine the price of Scotch soaring in England, I will be bunkering some before that vote just in case. Unfortunately did not prepare for Brexit and stock up from the Spanish and Dutch suppliers I normally use and the cost of the euro now makes it prohibitive.

Bought Jim Beam Devils cut, double oak, buffalo trace and eagle rare within last 2 weeks first 2 as I like Beam in general and never tried them, the second 2 repeat purchases I regularly have in stock. Would love to try the Buffalo Trace at 90 proof but still makes a bargain sipping bourbon at 80 proof, the Eagle rare just has the extra kick and I love the flavour.

Just picked up a bottle of Alberta Premium Dark Horse, it's currently $5 off at the LCBO bringing it to $26.95. I'm not expecting miracles from this bottle, in fact, my expectations are pretty low. I've read some decent reviews, the price/quality of course was always factored in. The composition of the whisky sounds intriguing to me, so adding up all of these factors makes this bottle a pretty easy purchase.

A'bunadh Batch #54 ---because of the excellent reports from Victor and a decent (or at least not offensively high) price. .I'm looking forward to trying it out!

@Jonathan looks like you got in just in time. many jurisdictions are in fact displaying offensively high prices for this sherry bruiser.

Just bought a bottle of Amrut SC bourbon finish because Amrut is almost a sure it for me. It was joined by a bottle of Benriach 15 yo PX because I read this year batch is supposed to be good and I just opened my bottle from 2 or 3 years ago and I really like it.

@Pete1969 Don't you find Buffallo trace to have huge batch variation? I had some very good ne and some very dull one.

@Robert99 Citizens of La Belle Province are so lucky to have such an Amrut variety... 5 expression!.

Thought he PX single cask looks quite expensive, more I think than it was here in 2014 (of course I waited until it was $66...). I hate to say it but as for the Bourbon SC, $100 is not an unexpected price, maybe even lower than expected. In 2014 our bourbon SC (only 60%, not CS) were released at $127 or so, before being discounted to $75 (when I got some) and then to $40 for the last 3-4 bottles.

@Robert99 I have not noticed any Batch variation so far but only my second year drinking whisky and to be honest just have it around as a don't need to think about it dram when I have a stressful shift. At the price point there are no issues with making a cocktail or long drink with it either so guests tend to get this unless they want a sipper and then the cabinet proper gets opened.

Thankfully things are changing in stores and basic bourbons are becoming more readily available, Makers,Woodford, Beam (white, devils cut, double oak and knob creek) Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare can all be found in supermarkets within 5 miles of home. 2-3 years ago I would struggle to find half of that list and I hope the choice continues to expand.

@Nozinan We do have a nice selection of Amrut, but as you are saying , it comes with a full price. Price is one of the reason why I opted for the CS Bourbon as I find the PX quite expensive.

@Pete1969 Indeed if you want to use BT as a mixer it is doing the job. I never had a bad one only a dull one as a sipper.

I originally scored the Amrut sherry single cask as better than the bourbon in 2014 at Spirit of Toronto. But because it was cheaper when discounted it was much harder to get and I only got 2. I haven't opened one since. However, because I was able to get a few of the bourbon casks I opened one to celebrate. On its own it was fabulous, much better than I remembered it. I think it was a function of my developing a better appreciation for non-sherry matured malts.

Maybe next time you're in Toronto we can open one of the sherry cask bottles. And we can open a bourbon cask bottle and do a head to head. I might even be able to find regular bottles or minies of all the ones I tried at Spirit of Toronto and we can recreate the masterclass (minus Ashok's great commentary). Including the sample of Greedy Angels he gave me. This is sounding really exciting...!!!

I grabbed a Morlach G&M 15 YO 43% ABV last night for my whisky club. Mortlach invariably comes up when we start talking about dream drams and memorable drams that some of us have had individually, but this will be the first Mortlach for the club officially. I think it'll be a hit.

Plus, I can pair it with a rather unMortlachian bourbon-barrel IB that's already on my shelf, just for fun.

Glendronach 1994-20yr Single Cask . Was able to taste it at whisky bar and it was the best whisky I have ever tasted. Was always thinking I would buy Hp25 but the price just over $500 CDN at the time would be quite big splurge for me.(Just saw it today for $745+tax.... Ahhh I will pass).

The prices in BC are quite discouraging especially when looking at the deals you can get elsewhere. As a another reviewer commented I feel like a bit caught up the emotion of things especially when looking at others with their reviews, other sites, vlogs and so on.

  • A bottle of the Glenfiddich IPA Experiment 01
  • 3 bottles of the Glenfiddich Project XX Experiment 02

An IPA cask finished malt sounds interesting. The Project XX has parallels to the Snow Phoenix that I quite enjoyed.

I gave up trying to get every locally available batch of this expression a while ago. I would go crazy trying to find places to put it. Since I'm using up about a bottle every 2 years, I have really decreased my purchases. Since I buy A'Bunadh to drink, no sense continually adding to a Stockpile I will never use up.

Managed to find a place that was selling these cheaply - about 25% less. Last five bottles that they had, hard to say no to such a good price - lovely drinking too.

Pendleton 1910

I've been waiting many months for the LCBO to restock this delicious 100% rye whisky, and when I popped in the other day to re-stock on Lot No. 40 I noticed a couple of bottles of 1910 in the lock-and-key cabinet. I made sure to grab a couple in case it takes a while before they're back in stock again.

Stopped into a liquor retailer down state that opened earlier this year. Had high hopes for an expansive selection shortly after chatting with the owner at the Grand Opening. But a couple visits during the year had left me quite disappointed. Evidently his focus changed to expansive selection of craft beers. Stopped in today to pick up an inexpensive bottle of bourbon for mixing. Left with far more than i could have dreamed of from this shop. Perched on top shelf was retailer's lone bottle of Japanese whisky; The Yamazaki 18yo. Just had to buy it. Not cheap. But not frequently encountered by me either.

I recently bought a bottle of Springbank 15. It stood for years on the shelf of a liquor store. The owner was so nice to sell it for a very low price. I am very fond of Springbank 10 and Springbank 12 CS. I hope 15 will be as exciting as 10 and 12 CS.

I also bought a bottle of Benromach 10. I am told this is a speysider with springbank qualities. Well, I am very curious to find out whether this is true

I've been on a business trip over the past few days; bought some bottles I can;t get near home:

Wisers 52 Union--hey, it's new, it's unique, and it's only available here in BC 40 Creek Founders Reserve--the annual release from the makers of my favourite Canadian whisky Ninety 20--a sweet, uncomplicated Canadian at a sweet uncomplicated price Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 5--I bought their Cask 4 last year, a very nice sherry-bomb Glendronach E. H. Taylor Single Barrel Bourbon--very rare here, has had some great reviews E. H. Taylor Small Batch Bourbon--also rare, bought it for a friend so we can compare with the Single Barrel Monkey Shoulder blended scotch--again, this has gotten some good reviews, and it's relatively cheap.
