Springbank 21 YO Single Cask bottled for the Netherlands at 48%.

uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161214/…

How this ended up in Australia and on auction, I do not know. A worthy addition to the other two bottles of the Springbank 21 YO Single Cask bottled at 49.2%, and for a bargain of a price too.

@DevD I believe the Lottery is set for Jan 21st. That's what I read somewhere. You can sign up at LCBO Vintages for emails on new arrivals, the lottery notification will be emailed.

I just bought a bottle of Old Grand Dad 114 for my whisky club. Our bourbon month isn't until May, but I wanted to get one now, before they're gone forever.

The $20 price is a huge perk here. It leaves money in the club's coffers for more expensive scotch that I'll buy for other months' meetings.

@Ol_Jas I am always happy to read that people will be enjoying a whisky that I think very highly of.

I am very disappointed that it will be history. It will be harder to open each of my bottles knowing that instead of being difficult to replace due to geography, it will be impossible to replace... anguished

@Ol_Jas This discussion inspired me to buy Bookers "Off Your Rocker" from North Aurora Woodmans for $42.99 +tax. Maybe the Woodmans near Madison has an even better price!

Well it looks like I lost out on this year’s Pappy Lotto in Virginia. I heard a rumor that there were over 9,000 entries for only 90 bottles. And it sounds like my number (and my wife’s number) did not come up. Oh well. I am not the biggest fan of the Van Winkle line. However, I would not pass up the opportunity to pick up a bottle at retail.

Anyway, I did make it out of the fall bourbon hunt with a few bottles to show:

E. H. Taylor Barrel Proof 63.75% 2016 – Why? I have heard good things.

E. H. Taylor Rye 50% - Why? I have heard mixed things, but figured I would give it a go. The bottle is now open . . . and I might need to give it some serious air time.

Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 12yo 2016 – Why? I really liked last year’s so I was pleased to get this one.

Elmer T. Lee – Why? This is now on high allocation. But my “guy” put one aside for me. I didn’t care for my last bottle. This one might be up for a trade.

Old Weller Antique 107 - Why? I miss this being my go to bourbon. I can’t tell you how many mixed drinks I made with this bourbon only 5 or 6 years ago. Now, I have to sip it sparingly.

And . . .

William Larue Weller 67.7% 2016 – Why? Do I have to say? These are fantastic. I still get chills when I remember my first sip from @Victor’s bottle of 66.75% from 2011. It was one of those re-calibration moments on my whiskey drinking journey.

Yes, my wife still had her name on a waiting list and some how it came up. The BTAC is still back ordered in Virginia which means that all old orders will be filled and ONLY THEN will the BTAC go into the lottery system. I was shocked (and so was she) to get the call on Monday. As far as I know all my previous orders have come through. So, I am ecstatic to get this last bottle. I doubt I will see anymore until after the next bourbon bust.

@Nock That is Quite the haul. I found the Forester this year to be more cohesive, but not as complex as last year. Haven't tried my new bottle of EHTBP, but the previous have been incredible. I've only had 1 session with the WLW this year, it is hot and good.

Could not resist a final splurge on Amazon daily deals Lagavulin 8 @ £41.19 Talisker 10 @ £25 and Caol Ila 12 @ £27 and a rum for the wife El Dorado 12 @ £24 from lightning deal. If I had not already spent a small fortune on alcohol this month I would have spanked the deals with multiple bottles Lagavulin 16 was only £36.50 and Dalwhinnie 15 @ £28. I think I need to put away a large pot for next year at those sort of prices and buy for the year.

I would have bought multiple bottles and they also had Lagavulin 16 at £36.50 and Dalwhinnie 15 @ £28 will have to start saving for next Christmas sales and stock up for the year at those prices.

Stocked up on Kilchoman Machir Bay 2 bottles at € 37,- each, and 2 bottles Amrut Intermediate at € 60,- each. Very good prices, I'll enjoy these bottles for the years to come. Furthermore I killed one on my shortlist, at € 60,- a 100 proof Benromach 10 yo. Can't wait to pop the cork on this jewel, loved the 'standard' 10 yo.

A 17 year old Laphroaig matured in ex-sherry refill butt.

Cask strength, unchillfiltered, sherry cask matured Laphroaig of respectable age - what's not to like?

KJust purchased a bottle of Redbreast 12 YO CS online through LCBO.

Why? Christmas (which I do not celebrate) comes on Sunday, and I don't think I will have time to find something for my brother in law in Calgary from my arrival to gift-wrapping time ( < 24h).

Although he doesn't drink much Irish whiskey, I think he will like the taste profile of this clean, full-flavoured expression.

I will be bringing one of my sealed bottles to him, because I don't have time to get to a store that still carries this. So I bought one online (same batch) to replace it and I expect it will be ready for pickup on my return.

Like Nozinan, I've just availed myself of the LCBO's online ordering system. I used it to snag three bottles of Wild Turkey 101. Why three? Because as far as I'm concerned, WT 101 is one of the best deals in bourbon right now, and the LCBO doesn't always carry it. Figured I might as well stock up.

Decided to return my paid $54 (store did not blot out the bar code), now $90 bottle of Gibson's 18 and a paid $54 Baker's Bourbon, now $67 back to the LCBO and along with a $50 gift card pick up a Redbreast 21. Why, this is for my 60th in 3 weeks.

@Astroke Are you saying they gave you the higher price for the bottles... AND a gift card for the balance?

Impressive. My local store would never do that.

7 years ago 0

Astroke replied

@Nozinan No, the bottles are worth that now, when I purchased the Gibson's it was on a managers sale and the Bakers was purchased at the old price of $54. I paid $108 for the 2 and now they ring in around $157. The gift card was mine.

Astroke replied

@Nozinan So yes they gave me the higher price as they would not know what I paid only what the bar code registers.

Just blew the 2017 whisky budget. My brother in law took me to a Calgary store I hadn't been to before. The big draw was the fact there were a lot of minis to get. In fact there were not that many I wanted, but this place was a goldmine.

As excited as I am about what I came away with, I'm as despondent about the many things I left behind....Octomore for $140, Stagg Jr (same one I have at home), an Amrut single cask (Bengal Tiger), so much.....

But here are a few I did come away with:

  • A trio of Masterson ryes after a quick phone conference with my friend @paddockjudge

  • An OGD Bonded 100 proof

  • Smooth Ambler Old Scout 10 you cask strength - I'm saving that one for a future Ontario Summit if there is one.

  • Hazelburn Rundlet's and Kilderkins. I now have 2 of the three in the set. I checked wine searcher after I left and I've already doubled my investment (except I won't be selling this one).

  • a couple of mini Amrut peated (46%) so I can review and do a H2H with the CS.

  • Wayne Gretsky 99 - I know I won't want a bottle of this so the mini was just what the doctor ordered.

I now have to figure out how to get all this stuff to Toronto!

@Nozinan Jealous of that smooth Ambler. I think some sample swaps are in order after this haul. Reminds me of my trip to Atlantic Canada. I seem to remember your response to my comment about going to KWM. I believe you said you would not have time for that (regardless of what store you went to). Famous last words :)
