@Nozinan Probably, I am flying down this summer so without the car I won't be bringing back 13 bottles like last year. I am working for 4-5 bottles. Let me guess Caol Ila cask strength?

Not purchases, but recent birthday acquisitions. Really looking forward to trying the Talisker DE (2005-2015).

@Victor Thank you! My wife and I bought a set of these glasses for her father and I instantly fell in love with them. They have a wide base which is meant to maximize the spirit's surface area, and a funneled opening that is just slightly bigger than a Glencarin. Hand-blown and built to mimic a classy tumbler, but with all the benefits of the Glencarin.

@Mancub, I'd be very surprised if that design doesn't give you better results than a Glencairn.

@Nozinan Haha - no gimmick here. Unlike the Norlan, which I also own, this glass made no such illusions about "revolutionizing" whisky drinking. Just a quality made artisan cup. Sometimes special juice calls for a special cup, that's what these are to me.

Yes, I think many of us would be interested in looking into a special cup for a special spirit....

@tfahey1298 @Nozinan The company that makes the glass is called Denver and Liely and they are situated in Australia. www.denverandliely.com
It's definitely a pricey glass and I did consider spending my birthday cash on whisky rather than cups....but I know I will have them for a long time and having used them before I knew I wouldn't regret the purchase.

@Mancub
Another owner of the Denver & Liely. I gifted my mate from overseas one of mine from Batch 3 when he paid me a visit - another fellow whisky enthusiast currently based in Singapore.
Designed in Melbourne, I figured it would be a fitting souvenier.

Well, the last bottle of spirit I happened to buy wasn't a whisk(e)y. It was a bottle of gin. Now before anyone says anything disparaging (haha), it was a bottle of Bruichladdich's The Bontanist. To answer, why? First, I am also a gin lover. Second, I wanted to try something that came from a whisky distillery. Third, it happened to be a Ralfy recommendation, for those who enjoy gin but wanted to try something that de-emphasised juniper berries. However, just before this purchase, my last whisk(e)y purchase was a bottle of the 15yo Redbreast Single Pot Still. I bought because it was selling at an amazing price (well amazing for Colorado), and I didn't want to pass up on the chance to have a second bottle for storing. Oh yeah, this happens to be one of my favourite Irish SPS whiskies.

Just took a bit of a gamble on a 25 year old blended whisky from the Creative Whisky Company. The exclusive blend second batch, distilled in 1991, bottled this year, unchillfiltered, natural colour, 46% ABV. Sounds very promising.

I tried a dram (or two) of the Glengoyne Cask Strength Batch 002 at a recent festival in Birmingham. I went directly to the shop tent to buy a bottle. I've always like high abv whisky and this is no exception, coming in at 58.8%!

Laphroaig 25 yo 2013 Cask Strength Edition, 45.1% ABV. Went to a going away dinner with @dramlette for one my wife's work colleagues. A bottle of Laphroaig 25 was opened, passed around, and offered to the honore. He didn't like peated malt, so the bottle was given to us, 75% full. Thank you very much.
That is amazing how low the ABV for Cask Strength whisky can be in Scotland.

Not a purchase but an open bottle trade. My 1/3 bottle of VW 12 Lot B for his 1/2+ full bottle of Redbreast 21. There is nothing outside of a meteor strike that could stop me from making this trade.

I just bought a bottle of Octomore 10 year old second release. Have read so many positive reviews that I couldn't let it remain on the shelf when I saw it....

Highland Park 12 yr old, I bought two bottles because they were half price at £18 each.

A while ago I bought a bottle of Highland Park 18. It used to be one of my favourite whiskies and one that I always had in my collection. I opened it and poured me a dram but to my disappointment it was really crappy. Sharp and almost bitter. I didn't like it at all and gave the bottle to my neighbor. He didn't really like it either, but he finished the bottle anyway...
Highland Park used to be a fantastic whisky. Nowadays it's both mediocre and too expensive. Worst of all are their warrior whiskies. NAS whiskies that are quite bad and at the same time quite expensive. I honestly do not think I will buy another bottle of Highland Park- at least not without reading a really convincing review before.

my b'day is next week so i'm looking at getting 2 bottles. Arran 18 (the limited release 18 in the white bottle before it was added to the core range), and Glenfarclas 15. I already have peated whiskies on the shelf so im looking for more sherried and bourbon cask scotch. Arran 14 is my fave single malt so i can't wait to try an 18yo. from them, And the 'farclas 15 isn't for sale back in the US so if i want one i have to get it while overseas.

Balblair 1990, bottled in 2015. Shipped to me by my sister as Nova Scotia is one of the few places in Canada that you can buy a 25 year old sherried single malt for $164 Cad tax in. Man this stuff is dark for a no added color.

Just received my bottles of Wiser's Union 52 from a source in BC. Looking forward to opening it in about a month's time

Benromach 10. Why? Because it's $59 at the LCBO and you don't see quality scotch for that price ever up in this neck of the woods.
7 years ago 1Who liked this?
@mscottydunc I would be very tempted at that price. I liked the old 'Romach 10 before it was rebranded and the reviews on this one are good too. But I have 2 bottles of the 100/10 and so I don't see the need to get this too. Of course, my recent experience with Macallans at 43% may have me regretting this when they are gone.

@Nozinan You are welcome to try some from my bottle, so you won't be missing out entirely

@Nozinan , I too have some 100/10 in the stash, and I too am therefore unmotivated to pick up the standard 10. I've had the standard 10 at the bar (OK, actually a coffee shop that serves whisky), and it's totally fine and solid, but nothing to seek out or bunker—at least not for a guy who's already got a lifetime supply of quality stuff he's trying to get through. :)
