@A'bunadhman Nice pickup - I remember being fond of the 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask (and the Cuban cask for that matter - not much difference).

So much for resolutions - just finished an intense project at work so decided to buy one bottle to celebrate.

Decided on the Mortlach 15 (G&M) as it has such a wide-range of opinion and decided to pick up the Glenfarclas 21 that I was looking for during the holidays.

Happy with both so no regrets...

@Victor...really glad @whiskyJoe and I were able to pick up a bottle of OGD 114 last May in NY. I'll be on the look out for it whenever I may next venture into the US to stock another bottle!

@Pudge72, at the rate we drink whisky, we've got bottles to last now for probably 20 years, maybe 30. I have a hard time not wanting to put away some favourites for myself for the future. Whenever I even hint at buying anything else, @Dramlette frequently asks me, "Do you really NEED any more whisky?". The answer is obviously NO. But I do WANT more whisk(e)y sometimes.

There is something about Old Grand-Dad 114 which just elicits paroxysms of fun and good cheer with our little familial group of whiskey lovers. Off the top of my head I am not sure what I would choose as a substitute, if I had to go without. Ancient Ancient Age 10 YO would have been the answer, before it was discontinued. Now, perhaps Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star might be the choice,...though, oddly, someone just recently wiped out all the supply of that one in our county.

@Victor...I'm in total agreement with everything you said, but especially about the fun that the OGD 114 brings to a gathering. A smile comes to my face every time I talk/think/write ("tentacles of wood!") about the bottle. The only reason mine is not currently open is that I am trying to cut down the number of open bottles (now at 29!) before I open a couple (several?) more.

I was fortunate enough to find a bottle of 2nd edition Octomore for $120 gathering dust. I always balked at the $150+ price tag I saw for the 6.1's in the stores but when I found this one, it was too good a deal to pass up.

I just bought a bottle of Famous Grouse Blended Malt 15. I can't find word one about it online, but I bought it based on the fact that Famous Grouse 18 Blended Malt is absolutely brilliant and affordable. I'm not big on their blends, but Grouse's aged blended malts are fantastic, although sadly not widely distributed. If you can find one, but it. Both the 15 and the 18 put a lot of single malts to shame, and have nothing to do with the Grouse blends, which are barrel bin whiskies.

@Victor, this doesn't really fit this forum. I picked up 2 bottles of Cazadores Extra Anejo Tequila Limited Addition. Great barrel flavor, vanilla , agave, spice, great finish. I actually taste a layer in there similar to a malt forward or neutral scotch. I think it must be the barrel influence.
Going down the tequila rabbit hole, I was trying to wait until Spring but couldn't. I had this at a party last weekend, great stuff, went out and bought the last 2 on the shelf.

I'll work on the list you sent me, thx.

Went w a friend to Summerhill and tried a tasting of the Mortlach 15 (quite pleasing to the palate and when asking the product consultant how it compared to the 21, his reply was to stick w the 15 - appreciate the honesty) and the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban - enjoyed enough that decided to get a bottle along w the El Dorado 25 (my reason for going)

After making a Connosr-driven decision to NOT buy the Nadurra Oloroso (what better way to mark my 4 years on the site than leaning on the expertise of others on said site? Thanks again to @talexander, @LarsA and others for some very thoughtful commentary about the bottle!), I was in a debate on what to purchase.

It came down to re-stocking one of my all-time faves, Glenfarclas 15, or picking up two new bourbons, Maker's Mark 46 and Knob Creek Single Barrel (for $10 more). While I usually go for the 'new experience', In this instance tried, true, and awesome won out as I figure I can pick up the two bourbons individually at another time.

@mscottydunc Curious as to how you are enjoying the Aberlour 12? I found it okay but not special. Just nothing real distinct about it.

@TexasJustice09 I agree that when I first opened the bottle it wasnt anything special. Good, but not great. Ive had my bottle open for several months, and the second half of the bottle has been in a decanter for the last 6 weeks or so. It has improved immensely, far better now than when the bottle was first opened.

Another bottle of EH Taylor Rye and Whistlepig 10 Year Old Rye, so I figured I should have some spare as these are really hard to come by at my end of the world.

Also: - Rock Hill Farms Bourbon - Old Weller Antique 107 - Wild Turkey Rye 101 US Proof (the older label of the 101 Rye) - Russell's Reserve 6 Year Old Rye - Rowan's Creek Bourbon

A nice variety to assist with developing my taste for American style whiskey.

@sengjc, nice acquisition - difficult to obtain in my part of the world also, and I'm 4 hours from the U.S. border in one direction and 6 hours in another direction.

Wild Turkey 101 remains unobtainable in Ontario. This is disappointing because the parent company, Campari, now has a production facility and distribution hub with the 2014 acquisition of Forty Creek in Grimsby (1/2 hour from Buffalo and Niagara Falls).

Rock Hill Farms is probably a scarce bottle in Kentucky - good call on the inventory top-up. WhistlePig is Canadian juice from a Vermont office address; I hope to repatriate a bottle of this magnificent Alberta expression this week. Weller 107 is on my wish list - perhaps I might find some in Australia;)

All of your selections are very fine whiskies. Please tell me, did you discover these on your own or was Connosr and its contributing community a factor in your original selection(s)?

Bit of a story behind this purchase. I was in Toronto for work yesterday, and noticed there was a store with a bottle of Aberlour A'Bunadh batch 49 not far from where I was. For whatever reason, the directions app on my phone was not working. Tried rebooting to no avail, I figured the whisky gods didn't want me to have that bottle. I noticed another bottle in Waterloo, which was on my drive home, so I called to inquire if they still had it. The store employee was unable to locate the bottle on the floor or in the back room. At this point I figured it wasnt meant to be. I stopped at the LCBO around the corner from my place once I was home to grab some beer, and what was on the shelf? One bottle of Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 49, with a hand written price sticker. Someone must have returned it, or they found a lone bottle in the back, but needless to say it came home with me. I now have 2 sealed bottles tucked away for a rainy day. Talk about dumb luck!

Not so dumb. I hear the 49 is very good. I only have one bottle of it but it will stay intact until 2018. Unless there is an apocalypse and we can o longer get yearly calendars. But then waiting for my 49th birthday may be the least of my worries...

Certainly the Connosr community had a influence in my choice - reading past reviews and opinions, from discussions, etc. Other available web info did the rest. ;)

I find my taste in bourbon leans towards those with typically higher rye content in the mashbill.

The WLW was a natural progression since I do like a bit of Bernheim.

I've just bought the Glenmorangie's Lasanta and Quinta Ruban. I had no intentions of buying these but I saw them while I was shopping in a local supermarket, Morrison's, a shop which does not normally sell these expressions .There was just 1 bottle of each, both with thick dust on top , and the Lasanta was even bottled at 46% while the newer bottles are 43%. Lucky me! The best thing of all though was the price , the Lasanta was £24-99 and the Quinta Ruban £26-99.At those prices I just had to have them both! You can occasionally get excellent deals in supermarkets , last month I had some half price Caol Ila 12 and Glenkinchie 12.

You've really piqued my interest in this inexpensive yet legendary bourbon.

A friend went to Florida and I asked him to see if he could find OGD 114. He could only find the 100 so I politely thanked him and declined.

I decided to look it up online. I found an online retailer that had it for sale at $19.98 a bottle. Sadly, the minimum order was $60 so I would have had to buy 4.

Luckily my Florida friend was interested in one. I was hoping for 2 myself, and I think I know what to do with the last one.

Now it may take a couple of years for me to get them all (after all, there are still 3 Bladnochs and 2 Booker's waiting to come to me), but eventually they will be here.

Now I'll have to open a few bottles to be sure I keep with my plan to have no more sealed bottles next year as I started the year with...

@Nozinan, I am sure that you will have no trouble finding good homes for the Old Grand-Dad 114, should you decide you would like to shed some of your bottles in the future, especially for the prices you paid. Wonderful gifts too. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Extreme bang for the buck.

Independently bottled 15yo Laphroaig ('The Whisky Agency', a German bottler) - because it's: a) Not tarnished by another silly cask finish - Laphr tastes great as it is, never understood why they mess around so much when their distillate is so darn good.. b) Bottled at a lip-smackingly good 52% ABV c) There is no offical 15yo right now and that is simply the best age for Laphroaig imo

Glenlivet 15 yr French Oak.

Had a few drams of this single malt at my parents this past Christmas, and for a Glenlivet - it's pretty good, and for $45 it's a decent value.

@FMichael I also recently had a taste of the Glenlivet 15 French Oak. I would agree at the value statement with all that nice spiciness it brings forth from the French oak. It definitely surprised me as I am not a big Glenlivet fan.
