@Victor - that's actually a very interesting idea...I will definitely consider that. It would be nice if we had a live auctioneer, because that certainly would bring out the competitiveness and bring the bids up, but they do things via a virtual web-based system, so you tend to get last minute e-bay style sniping...but for now I'm going to have to think about what I could offer in terms of an organized tasting...food for thought for the next little while!

Lots of family in town for funeral, McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt, Macallan 18yr, Balvenie Tun 1401, and Dalmore 15yr. All of these bottles are gone from my cabinet. :)

Another Laphroaig 10yo is gone. This one lasted from May until November. 7 months . . . they use to last longer on my shelf then that . . .

Today I finally poured my last dram of Springbank 12 YO cask strength. There is currently 1 bottle for sale in Ontario, a 2 hour drive away.

An online shop in Calgary has it for sale for $25 dollars cheaper. I think I will have to buy a bottle while I'm there. My wife, who would prefer my collection not exceed the space in my cabinet, won't like that, as there are already 2 bottles waiting for me there, and four left in Florida, and no room for them.

I did decide to bring my brother in law a bottle of FC Heart of Gold, but that won't make room because I bought 2...one for him, one for me (to back up my open bottle)

An old (I think 1980s bottle) of Royal Salute 21 Year Old, and I tried to polish it off fairly quickly as the cork rather disintegrated. Amazing blend, truly great. Would have loved to have been able to do a side-by-side with a more recent bottling...

I did a head to head of JW red from late 70s or early 80s vs a fresh 50 cc bottle, and I can tell you, there WAS a difference....

@Nozinan I have heard that there are massive differences between JW Reds from "early times" to now (and JW Red now is barf). I've heard there are differences between my Royal Salute and modern ones. But I don't know for sure as I've never tried a modern one, only the bottle I recently (and deliciously) finished.

Aberlour a'bunadh #45: This has been one of the best a'bunadh's and, certainly, one to 'salt away'. I do have about 250ml. in sample bottles, 2 x 50ml. #42 and 1 x 150ml. #45; these are both excellent and there is debate at our place over which is better. I'm not sure there is a correct answer! I prefer #45 by the narrowest of margins.

Slainte!

After finishing cleaning up after hosting a short-notice work-related holiday gathering in my home, I sat back and enjoyed the final three fingers of Evan Williams Single Barrel 2003 bourbon. Lovely sipping whiskey. Maybe not complex, but at that moment, oh so good :-)

Getting over a cold but wanted a small dram last night. Finished off my Compass Box Great King Street. Just enough in the bottle to have a wee dram. I'll be replacing this bottle. I really enjoy this blend. It's a nice dram to start with prior to moving on to bigger bolder whiskies and it's great during the summer months.

Finished off a bottle of Bruichladdich 10 "The Laddie" the other night. Once I make some room on the shelf I will probably get another.

Wild Turkey 101 Rye and have 'some' bottles set aside - Which is as well, given that it is no longer available, having been replaced with the 81 version. 'Not for me, this new Rye!

Sadly, my 1983 BenRiach single cask will meet its end tonight. It may be my favourite bottle that I've ever owned and opened. I was fortunate enough to share the penultimate dram the other night with a friend whose family was a refugee of the power outages from the ice storm. A fitting (near) end to a great bottle as he and his three kids, cats, and wife warmed up after 60 hours without power.

So - my bottle of Corryvreckan has finally been emptied - about 6 month after opening. The last dram was the best - it certainly benefits from oxidation in the bottle. A few drops of water and it is great, but HTH I prefered the Cairdeas Origin (Laphroaig 2012).

Over the holidays, Rittenhouse Rye 100 and Aberlour A'Bundadh batch 40. Rittenhouse was finished making Manhattans for guests on New Year's Eve. A'Bundadh was finished with a friend who had never tried it but loved it. Which to open next? Batch 38, 42 or 45? I think 42 and save 38 and 45 for a later date.
