@Jonesz Aberlour Abunadh batch 52 is a great batch indeed but I found batch 53 a little better.. It's a shame that it's priced itself outside of what you're prepared to pay . It's getting ridiculously expensive everywhere these days!

Enjoying the cool change with a fabulous cigar and single malt after a long day at the office.

We polished off a bottle of Bowmore 12 over the weekend. There's something I really like about it; it's smoky, for sure, but there's a certain levity to it that makes it a refreshing change from the Laphroaigs and Lagavulins of the world.

@maverickdrinker, Fantastic Blog! Thanks for sharing your journey and enjoyment of fermented tobacco.

@paddockjudge thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the blog. May start to incorporate tasting notes of what liquor I am pairing the cigar with (if I am drinking a liquor at the time) into my cigar notes.

Aultmore 12 - never grew to really like this whiskey and can't place why not. It was bought to take to a in-city conference and then join the everyday dram rotation (w Springbank 10, Glen Dronach 12, Ardbeg 10, etc) but more often than not was served to friends during Twilight Struggle night after they had dabbled in the good stuff

Just finished a bottle of Glenfiddich 15 solera. Sad to see it go, cause I enjoyed it from the first drop to the last. Very nice everyday dram.

Just retired Macallan Cask Strength batch L10 61.1%. ...like chewing on a sherry log.

A special treat to distract me from the deep freeze we are experiencing in Northern Ontario, currently -25C and dipping down into the -30's for next few nights. Definitely Cask Strength climate.

@paddockjudge At least your work area is close to the "Devil's Office" You should be a little warmer down there! Extreme cold here as well but the Mc Cask Strength should warm your vitals.

Just finishing my bottle of Redbrest 12 CS B1/12 and I'm very sorry to see it go. This was one of my favorite ever whiskies but coming to the end of the bottle I must admit that there has been some deterioration. It used to be superb but now it's merely good. Fortunately I have another bottle so hopefully I'll be tasting wonderful Redbreast quite soon.

@Jonesz, after reading your comment concerning the "Devil's Office", I quickly determined that spiritual comfort was required. I immediately sought protection from the prince of darkness by purchasing a 12 YO bourbon, one named for the good pastor, Elijah Craig.

Very rare for me to actually to get to the bottom of a bottle because I open new stuff with my club, and never get around to coming back. Over the last 2 years I have expanded my breadth of whisky appreciation, but one single malt that remains a staple in my stable is A'Bunadh. Almost 2 years after opening it to drown my sorrows at turning 45, tonight I bid adieu to an excellent batch.

Finished a bottle of Kilkerran WIP 7 bourbon cask. An absolutely wonderful whisky! Hopefully they will continue to bottle at full strength. If you can find a bottle buy it! Luckily I have another bottle in my collection!

Pretty nifty pairing this one - very harmonious and complementary: savoury, earthy smoke accentuates the peaty, malty sweetness of the drink and vice-versa.

Aberlour A'Bundah batch 53: I see what the fuss is about. Powerful yet elegant. Beautiful to drink. Really opens up with a couple of drops of water

Eagle Rare 10 year: Still good but seems to be more manufactured for the masses vs. the original 10 year single barrel. May do a side by side tasting of the two as I keep shying away from my remaining bottles of single barrel and drinking the new bottles...

We finally found a bottle of the right-now-rare-as-hen's-teeth Crown Royal Northern Harvest. It was decent. Quite decent indeed. As can be evidenced by the fact that we polished it off in three weeks.

Just finished my Balvenie Single Barrel Sherry Cask, one of my favorite over priced (Ontario) SM's. Do have a backup that cost me all of my Christmas LCBO gift certificates and will wait to open that.

Last night I bid farewell to my first bottle of Amrut Peated Cask Strength Batch 12, It was one of the finest single malts I've ever tasted and I opened it 14 months ago. Luckily I picked up some more when the LCBO lowered the price.

@Astroke, yes, in my whisk(e)y research I have sipped on quite a few drams of Jack Daniels Old No. 7, but I have enjoyed fewer than half of them. I find Old No. 7 to be extremely batch variable. Some of them are good...but only some. Most of the ones I have liked have been in more recent years. I have never purchased a bottle of Old No. 7 larger than a mini.

@Victor I do enjoy the JD SB, last time I had No 7 was doing shots at the legendary King Eddy Hotel (Calgary), Blues Jams in the early 80's :)

With great reluctance, my cherished bottle of Old Potrero 18th Century style rye (batch J!!) was laid to rest last night. It took a long time to get through, but only because I never wanted it to end. One of my favourite whiskey experiences was trying it with @Victor and others for the first time and feeling like I was drinking directly from a grain silo. Awesome stuff!!

Many thanks to @Victor (and other members of his family) for procuring and transporting a bottle that took quite a circuitous route to get into my appreciative hands.

One of the final pours last night went to someone who had never tried it before, so the bottle 'died a good death'.

Been on a bit of a rye kick lately as my Lot 40 bottle was finished on Monday. In my limited experience with proper Canadian ryes, it is my favourite widely available bottle. Will get it again for sure.
