@ajjarrett I'm attending a tasting at a local whisky club tomorrow with the Glen Scotia brand ambassador. We're tasting the Double Cask, 15 year old, Victoriana, 18 yr, 25 yr and a G&M 1992 independent bottling. Having only tried the DC so far, I'm looking forward to this . Have heard good things about the 15 year old.

@OdysseusUnbound Glad to hear that your last bottle was a one-off and GF have redeemed themselves with the replacement. Cheers.

@dougwatts I am looking forward to your report on the various Glen Scotia expressions. I am quite envious that you have this opportunity.

Just replaced my bottle of An Cnoc 12. My wife likes it and it keeps her from acquiring a taste for any of my good stuff. And it's a pleasant little before dinner sipper.

Benromach 10 Imperial Proof
Because I absolutely love the 10, which is the best value single malt on the market around my parts imo, and have always wanted to try the more potent big brother.

Glendronach Moscatel Finish 15 Year Old... because it's a Speyside single malt, I hardly ever go wrong with them. Love the sweet raisins, nutty, fruity and winey flavours. In 2010 GlenDronach released 4 new Wood Finishes, the first of their kind to ever be released by the distillery in its 180 year history, I've been wanting to get it for a while now, review coming soon.

@KRB80 There is a growing consensus that Benromach 10, in both versions, is a best buy. Get it before they figure out it's worth more than they are charging for it.

Got tired of waiting for Lot 40 cask strength to show up anywhere near me or online so I purchased the new Highland Park Full Volume, distilled 1999, bottled 2017 at 47.2% ABV, ex Bourbon casks only.. For $130 CDN seems like a no brainer. For my Ontario friends here is the LCBO link.

@Astroke I've been looking at this one as well. Seems like a good deal for a HP aged 18 years, since their standard 18 is $200. From what I have heard this is exclusively aged in ex bourbon barrels rather than their traditional sherry of ones.

@boatracer I watched a Youtube video with the HP Ambassador on Whisky in the 6 and he said it (HP FV) would be available for about 18 months. Not 1 review online and unusual the LCBO releases it before anywhere else on the planet, it seems.

@Astroke guess I should have read your whole post before posting mine....anyway, ordered one myself as well. Big fan of the 12 year and the 18 is out of my price range.

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban - Heard good things and was at a decent price on Amazon as were Wild Turkey 101 @ £18, which is a real bargain imo, so picked up two of them as well although one will be a gift.
Like the WT a lot - it's punchy and quite raw but that seems to work better with bourbon than single malts. Very much a rye heavy bourbon as well.
Never tried a port cask (finished) whisky either so thought I'd give it a go.

I picked up a Glen Scotia Victoriana at a recent club tasting I went to. The Glen Scotia range is really impressive these days and right up my street with a stronger leaning towards bourbon matured stock than many Scottish distilleries these days. It is mainly age statement stuff but Victoriana is NAS and a real beauty. Brand ambassador said there was a lot of 16 and 17 year old spirit in there along with some younger stuff, obviously. Big and oily, just as the Victorians used to like it (apparently).

I picked up a Springbank 18 yr. I tried this one in Kuala Lumpur a few years ago and knew I had to pick it up someday.
I also picked up a Glendronach 21 yr Old Parliament, I like the line up and tried this one earlier this year and also had to pick one up.

That Glendronach parliament is great stuff, solid purchase! I haven't had springbank's 18 but I can't imagine it being less than stellar.

I didn't exactly buy it but I was just gifted a bottle of Highland Park Valkyrie. I'm really looking forward to trying this one. I really like Highland park, their 25 year old is one of my all time favorites, but I haven't had much of it in my personal cabinet.

@dougwatts , I'm hearing nothing but good about the new crop of Glen Scotias too—especially the Victoriana and the 15. I've had a few of the old-version Glen Scotias ones in my day, and they've never been anything above "pretty good." The recent improvement is supposed to be huge.
I'd like to lay hands on that Victoriana myself, especially now when it's still new. I'm a believer of the "age slide" criticism of NAS malts: The first batches might be really good to establish its reputation, then later batches can use more and more younger stuff before too many people notice. Just speculating!

@MadSingleMalt "age slide" I like it, and I think you are on to something there.

I recently bought a bottle of Tomatin Cu Bocan on a friends recommendation. It was on sale so I decided to take a chance. I like it. It's NAS, but NCF, 46% and appears to be natural colour, although not stated.

I just bought a bottle of Wiser's 18 and one of Highwood Ninety 20. I was in Ottawa last week end and I can find some of the best Canadian whisky over there that are not available in Quebec. Neither are really down my alley, but I recognize the quality of H 90/20 and I am looking forward to create some interesting vating with it. As for the Wiser's, I do prefer the Legacy spiciness over the 18 sweetness. If you want a Canadian with balance and depth with less spices than Legacy, I would suggest to go for Gibson 18.

@dougwatts I am curious about the Victoriana. I first read many good reviews of it and then I read a few reviews judging the Victoriana to be so so. It seems to be checking all the right boxes for me so I look forward to read a full review of it.

@BlueNote With that kind of line [Get it before they figure out it's worth more than they are charging for it.] You may be part of their next marketing campaign.

This year I received 2 bottles of Chivas 12 from families of patients, one 1.1 L and one 750 cc. I am not really a single malt snob anymore but there is no way a bottle of Chivas in my cabinet would last under 10 years.
So I found a couple of (non NBC) bottles I wanted and brought these to my local store. Sadly, the larger one was too old to return. Apparently the packaging is too different for them to sell. So I exchanged the smaller one (also apparently from 2011), added a little off a gift card, and picked up FC Heritage. Whether I keep it will depend on the generosity of others who may allow me to taste it first.
I was hoping to pick up a Kilkerran 12 and I just might still, but I need to figure out what to do with my Chivas 12 mega bottle. As the astute LCBO employee (the exception that calls attention to the rule) pointed out, if this is a really old bottle the stuff inside may be very different, possibly better than contemporary Chivas 12. The front-runner of all plans is to open it with friends this winter and encourage one of them to take the rest home (after pouring off a sample to review, of course).

Well, a few showed up in Hamilton so I rushed to the Dundurn LCBO and all but 1 was on hold so that's that. Unless I need a back up.
States 1st issue on the bottle so I guess it may be a core release

I was able able to grab a Lot 40 CS, one of the dozen or so that landed in Waterloo. Just happened to check the site before leaving the office for a meeting.

Afew weeks ago I returned from a long weekend trip to Dallas. With the approach of the Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday season and all of the entertaining my family does, I decided a "Texas" theme might be fun for one of the gatherings. So I purchased four bottles of texas distilled whiskies and transported them home in my luggage. I had my heart set on returning with bottles of Balcones True Blue 100 and True Blue 122 (Cask Strength). Alas, my trip predated the fall release of those two by three weeks. And I was unable to locate any of last year's release in the Dallas area. So I settled for bottles of the Baby Blue and Single Malt whiskies. Other two bottles I returned with were Firestone & Robertson TX bourbon, and TX blended whiskey. I may add others over the next month, but not sure which. Balcones seems head and shoulders above the rest, and I found the F&R selections to be quite tasty. Open to suggestions. Would still love to obtain both True Blue expressions. May have a Dallas friend seek them out for me, and ship if/when found.

@cherylnifer , you didn't mention the Brimstone, but it's the one Balcones whisky I've had, so I'll give you an unsolicited opinion.
It's bad.
Not disgusting, but pretty polarizing. Unlike your standard peated whiskies that seem to appeal to (let's just say...) 15% of people, it seems like Brimstone appeals to only about 5% of people. (Those overly specific numbers are BS, or course—just my impression from having tasted it, shared it, and read others' reviews.) Some people do love it, though. Try before you buy!
