@KRB80 I don't know about the 2017, but some of my favourite bourbons have been Stagg Srs.

@Nozinan Indeed. I haven't tried the 2017 yet either but every one that I have had in the past has blew my mind. I'm stoked to finally have the opportunity to have a bottle of my own.

Here is the official info on this year's release from BT: breakingbourbon.com/assets/…

@KRB80, one cannot have too many bottles of George T. Stagg.

I am greatly hoping to get one this year, but the issue is still in doubt. The 2017 Stagg release is the largest one on record, by far. I hope that that ups the odds on getting one.

@Victor The George T.Stagg Uncut Unfiltered is available here as part of the annual premium spirit release. Only$220.

@BlueNote, that converts to what, US $ 176 tax included? And you can just walk into the store and buy it? That is a deal almost never available in the US. In the US, if you are one in five lucky or connected, you can get a dealer to sell you a bottle for between about $ 100 (including tax) and about $ 200 including tax. Secondary market value is thrice that. In the US there would be lines waiting to pay Can @ 220 for a bottle of Stagg on a first come first served basis. IF I manage to buy a bottle this year, it will be because we have close ties to dealers from before the madness struck, ...and I will probably still pay $ 160-$ 180. Will I pay that for George T. Stagg? Of course I will.

@Victor I believe @BlueNote may have to camp out to snag a GTS in Vancouver. I of course will have to try my luck in the annual LCBO lottery. With only half of my 2012 GTS left I need that back up bottle.

@Victor Thanks for the tutorial, I had no idea. I think quantities will be very limited and probably long gone by the time I get into Vancouver. They start lining up the night before for this annual event. I have my eye on a few things (2017 Cairdeas, Caol Ila unpeated 15 yr old, Glenfiddich Project XX, Arran Amarone Cask Finish). I'll let you know how it works out.

@Astroke You are absolutely right. Slim chance for us who live outside Vancouver, and there is no pre ordering (so they say). I think that might depend on who you are.

Been on a bit of a buying spree - 2008 Airigh Nam Beist (replacing a long lost bottle), Talisker 57 North, Glenfarclas 15 (103 Proof version via TWE), and Laphroaig 15 (anniversary version).

@msudukie It's been a long time since I've seen Airigh Nam Beist. Did you get it at auction or are there still some around?

Just bought a bottle of plain old Jameson. My mother is coming to visit for my youngest’s birthday and she doesn’t like peated whisky, but she loves Jameson on the rocks.

A couple of bottles of the Ardbeg "The Ultimate" An Oa - recently released here in Australia.

Will be at least a few weeks before I can partake of this, earmarked for Christmas 2017.

@sengjc Please let us know if you agree that it is the "Ultimate."

@MadSingleMalt

Friendly FYI to anyone not familiar with how Ardbeg labels their whiskies: "The Ultimate" is the slogan Ardbeg claims for themselves a whole, not just for any particular whisky they release.

Very modest of them, too.

I just ordered a Lot 40 CS online, but they’re clear in their first email that they can’t guarantee stock. So I might still get screwed. It is the LCBO after all.

@OdysseusUnbound I picked up 2 last week in Ancaster and there were 9 on the shelf. Still 3 there after the weekend. The mad rush comes from Whisky heads like us and then a slow steady decline in stock from there. The same message you got was also used for CRNHR.

@OdysseusUnbound 2 hours later and still over 70 showing on the website. I'd assume your order is safe! But we know what happens when one assumes.....especially with a government agency.... wink

I haven't yet bought (maybe there is another thread dedicated to mulling over purchases before they're made) but whiskybroker in the UK has just listed a load of new bottlings at typically keen prices, including a 14 year old Highland Park, 8 year old 'laddie and 8 yr Bladnoch, a couple of old single grains and a single cask from Heaven Hill Distillery. As far as I know this is the first bourbon he's bottled. I'm sure the HP, Bladnoch and the 'laddie will go quickly. I am tempted by his 21 year Ben Nevis, having read a few comments on Connosr praising this distillery's good old fashioned, honest character and low notes. I haven't ever had any Ben Nevis but at £55 for a cask strength malt of that age, it is perhaps a risk worth taking. I may well also go in for the bourbon.

@dougwatts That Ben Nevis sound interesting. At that price for a CS, it makes me almost suspicious. Is that an OB or a IB? Anyway, I would say, if you trust the bottlers, jump on it. I know I would.

@dougwatts
dougwatts replied

@Robert99 WhiskyBroker is an indie. Well regarded and excellent value, always single cask at cask strength. I've had nearly 30 bottles from him over the last five years or so including Clynelish 14 yr, North British 20 yr single grain, Bunnahabhain 20 yr, Dailuaine 20 yr, Springbank 14, Deanston 15 yr, Littlemill 22 yr, Invergordon Single Grain 25/26 yr, Auchentoshan 17 yr, Bunna 10 yr , Ardmore 13 yr, Royal Lochnagar 9 yr, Aultmore 8 yr, Bladnoch 8 yr, Aultmore 25 yr, Invergordon Single Grain 43 yr old and Glen Moray 9 yr. So I'm certainly a fan. Not all stunners by any means but never had a bad one, and some real gems in there. Not sure if his stuff makes it across the pond, being single cask and with a solid UK and European customer base, I doubt it.

@dougwatts That sounds like a great deal for the Ben Nevis, I paid $165 cdn for a 18 year CS Ben Nevis from Grindlay's and was happy to get it at that price.
